Weird audio issue in Chrono Trigger with both Bsnes and Mesen-S

Hey! I’m having a weird audio issue in Chrono Trigger, and it seems it’s ONLY Chrono Trigger. I’m using Bsnes 115, but it happened with Mesen-S as well.

Sometimes the audio gets crazy and makes these weird noises, but the biggest issue is that it seems that there’s some sort of echo / delay.

Just listen here.

I tried renaming retroarch.cfg & retroarch-core-options.cfg so they were recreated, but it still happens. I also tried another ROM file that is known to be good, but that didn’t help either.

It only seems to affect Chrono Trigger, no other games, no other cores, and it’s weird that i happens in both Bsnes and Mesen-S. I can’t for the life of me figure it out, I feel like I tried everything!

Any ideas?

in bsnes, try setting DSP cubic interpolation to OFF

It’s off.

Here’s the settings for Bsnes

bsnes_entropy = "Low"
bsnes_hotfixes = "OFF"

bsnes_mode7_scale = "1x"
bsnes_mode7_supersample = "OFF"
bsnes_ppu_deinterlace = "ON"
bsnes_ppu_fast = "ON"

Sorry, I tried to format it as a list :smiley: Anyway, I disconnected my G-Sync monitor and played on my tv instead, and so far I didn’t notice any issues, could it be caused by G-Sync?

hmm, that would be very surprising, but I guess it’s possible :man_shrugging:

Just tried Bsnes, Mesen-S and Snes9x and they all sound good, it’s weird. It seems to happen to Bsnes the most, but I’m certain it happened in Mesen-S as well. Well, I’ll keep an eye on it, let you know. Perhaps provide som debug logs if needed?
