I was playing an old Brazilian hacked version of a Monster Boy game called Turma da Mônica na Terra dos Monstros, for the Genesis/Mega Drive. That was what motivated me to finally download RetroArch, actually - I was annoyed with the other emulators and wanted to check out Genesis Plus GX.

The one wrinkle is that I tried to soft patch an improved translation patch I found on romhacking.net onto it, but it makes it not load. Not sure if it’s because I have RetroAchievements enabled or something else.

I’m hooked to Mario’s Picross (SNES/GameBoy). What an amazing and addictive puzzle game. I totally missed that in the past when I got those consoles.

Was just playing MK2, got pretty much dragged in to the retro achievements, so I started unlocking them all.

I also played Castle of illusion. Unlocked every achievement except for hard game mode :D.

Well since I recently in february became a dad my time playing games these days are very few in between.

I’m currently playing Lunar Silver Star Story and Eternal Blue on Sega Saturn whenever I get a little bit of free time on my hands.

I haven’t really played these games since I beat them 20 something years ago.

Other then that I try to play shorter games on the NES and SNES.

Between working 2 jobs and being a dad I really don’t have the time beating or playing games like BotW or TotK anymore

As you grow older, you drift towards games which respect your time. It’s not only about length, but also about conciseness and idle/active gameplay ratio.

Wish you and your family the best. Your hobby can still go on, albeit a little changed.

Last Game i played was Spyro the Dragon via Beetle PSX. Before this i played Medal of Honor Underground. I can highly recommend to everyone playing both games as they are not very time consuming and very well made for early 3d titles.

Side Note: I wanted to play Spyro 2 at first, but i had a bug with the PAL Release and activated “auto-cropping” in core options, so i switched to Spyro 1 and i Just Loved it as much as the Second Spyro Game. The Games are nice examples of making great looking and fun Games with just a PS1 as Base.

Playing the GBA castlevanias on my CRT tv realizing how those games somehow benefit from a CRT display even when those were not designed to be played on CRT tvs, I guess the pixel art will always benefit from a CRT?

This time I chose to tackle the whole Zelda series (including the handheld games) up to Ocarina of Time for now. Currently I am at Zelda A Link to the Past, which I have beaten many times in the past, but man I think this is still my favorite Zelda of all. But we’ll see…

Link to the Past is also my favorite. Matter of taste, but I really like the balance between way better indicators (compared to the more cryptic NES originals) and still having to explore and venture away to find secrets, which are not too many, thus less fatigue. Dungeons are plenty and fun, and scrolling got better, as not every room needs to be on a fixed screen. Finally, it’s a concise game, not too much text, not too much side-content, focus on the gameplay and on your main quest. It contrasts quite heavily with modern Zelda, but that can be said about many other franchises.
