What's your tv setup?!

Hello everyone. I’ve recently discovered Retroarch and I am SUPER excited to get some retro gaming going, especially NeoGeo.

I am asking those of you who play on your fancy TVs what your setup is as i really want to enjoy them while sittin on the couch. However I’m abit confused as to how I should go about this.
I am hoping to use a ps3 sixaxis controller for some wireless action, not have to deal with any “jail breaking” and all at a decent price, say 150 or there abouts. I was considering purchasing a CX 919 quadcore, as I thought this should be enough horsepower to run the emulations, but I’m getting cold feet. I’m not sure how this will work as I sorta think I’d need a mouse, and would rather not deal with that on my tv.

Also I was curios if anyone plays on a plasma, and if so, how we’ll do the sprites draw and do the filters do as good a job making it look CRT as I have been told they do.

In short, is it possible to do all this with a simple plug and play with a wireless controller?

Thanks so much!

I would go Intel NUC or Gigabyte Brix

Linux + KMS would be the best bet.

My current setup is an MK808 and a wired 360 controller.

These Rockchip Android sticks are okay, but not great. They’ll handle many of the RetroArch cores, but forget about shaders the GPU is just too weak. But they are also probably the cheapest option.

A much better option is to build a cheap(ish) HTPC. There’s some talk about specs in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1366 Basically an Ivybridge or Haswell Core i3 with Intel HD graphics will give a great RetroArch experience, especially with Linux and KMS mode.

I plan to build something like that soon.

Thanks for your responses guys. I think I will not worry about getting the android stick then, having at least the CRT scan line filter is a must, but I can’t tolerate any performance issues. I will consider that brix, it’s more money than I’d like to send however. I’m also going to try some research on HD streaming, as my home pc is a monster and can handle retro fine. The search for the best tv setup continues. I’m curious though, what type of tv are you guys playing on, and how do you find the look of the pixels. Are they mushy? Also, much lag involved?

Thanks again!

I have an LG 47" LED-edge-lit LCD and it looks really nice and sharp. Most of the lagginess in HDTVs comes from the scaler, so if you’re attached to a PC running at native res, it will be minimal (still there, obviously, but as low as possible).
