Would LOVE some help if possible (ios/sega cd)

Where to begin. I’ve poured hours into trying all I can think of with this. Robert broglias emu has issues with compatability in a particular game I’m dying to play, and as luck would have it… This is the only other sega cd emu viable on ios.

So with all that said - I get “Failed to load content”

This is after trying 3 different .bins to ensure it wasn’t the game. After trying both the pico and Gen+ cores to ensure that wasn’t the issue. After ensuring the bios files were properly named. After placing them in the same folder with the files as well as the system dir to ensure the issue didn’t lie there either.

Insane…

FTR I am on an iPhone 5 which is jailbroken.

Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated!

What game? Does it have separate CD audio files? Have you opened the cue sheet in a text editor to ensure everything is correct (many cue sheets are/were written with Windows in mind, so they have spaces in the names and capitalization problems that trip up more modern filesystems)?

Hey, tyvm for the reply. Fwiw I gave all files complete permissions and still no dice. Figured id mention that as to eliminate it as suspect.

As for the games, I’ve tried 4 different images now from 3 different websites of 2 different games :stuck_out_tongue: lunar (which works fine via md.emu) and lunar 2 (which loads in md.emu fine but has a bug with the audio looping) both completely fail with retroarch.

I did test the bios files themselves and they load fine. I’m completely mystified but will be SO indebted if someone can track down the issue for me. I’m certainly PC savvy but A) this isn’t a PC and B) I’m a mac noob. I guess C) would be the fact I have extensive emulator experience but have never been brick walled like this lol.

Anyhow, the cue are fine seeing as they load elsewhere but I can check anyhow. Retro doesn’t require the bin/cue to be zipped up right?

No zip required, but I would recommend renaming the bin (and the corresponding entries in the cue sheet) to something with no-caps and no spaces, like lunar2.bin.

Ugh, I did that with the bin. Not with the cue however. I’ll look into doing that and see if it helps. Is their any special folder the bin should go in or can it be literally anywhere?

I’m going to grab a rom to test if it’s the entire program or just the images/sega cd portion. I just don’t get it.

Just out of curiosity you have used sega cd personally or it’s widely known it’s problem free yes?

And thank you again very much for trying to help!

FTR the roms work so it’s specifically sega cd.

I should have all 3 bioses correct? Named BIOS_CD_U.bin etc?

If the naming has to be done a certain way I can only assume it’s due to that. Just working on figuring out how to open and edit a .cue on the iPhone.

Well I re installed retroarch. Re downloaded the image. Renamed it and it’s cue to lunar2.bin/cue and changed the name inside the cue.

Still ends up with Failed to load…

WHAT is going on?

Yea wtb the dev in here please. Just tried a few additional images and nothing. I’m convinced sega cd simply isn’t working until shown otherwise.

If anyone can help me I’ll shoot you 5 bucks via paypal! Sigh

NACocoaErrorDomain Code=516

That mean anything? It seems to be the relevant portion of what I’m getting in the log?

It’s almost certainly a BIOS issue. Make sure you have a sega CD BIOS file in your ‘system’ directory with the name: bios_CD_U.bin

All 3 of them are in the retarch directory. Also tried it in the directory that houses the games.

Any other suggestions?

(As I mentioned the bioses themselves are named properly and function on their own perfectly)

Thank you very much for sticking with me and trying to help me sort this out.

In a minute I’m about to dump it all and start from scratch. Assuming I did this, and installed via the cydia official repo - what EXACT directory should I place bios and bin? I’m positive I’ve already tried both but this way I have a clean slate and will be able to ascertain and eliminate the problem should it not lie there.

Realize these are all things I’ve tried and tried again before posting. I realize the solutions are running slim which is why I’m posting and frustrated. Anyone else that can post in with their phone/firmware and the validity of sega cd images working for them? Perhaps the directories used as well?

also noticed elsewhere people talking about adding lines to the config file n such. This isn’t necessary in my case?

I tried a new bios from elsewhere. Close to giving up.

HAS to be an emulator issue. These are known working files /sigh

UGH! Got it! RIGHT before raid time too!

You were right in a sense, it was a bios issue persay. The bios’ simply wouldn’t work period if in the same directory as the games. Also wouldn’t work if it was all 3 together.

I had to put just the properly named US bios in the retroarch dir (for people with the same issue, it has to be unhidden via ifile) and ensure all permissions are set to read/write/execute.

Finally for it to update and actually “work” (I think this caught me up a few times) after making a change you MUST fully close down the emu by double clicking the home button, otherwise it won’t update the changes and you will get the same result.

What a headache! Finally! Thanks for insisting it was the BIOS, it caused me to look at it over and over and finally got it :stuck_out_tongue:

Now to PRAY lunar 2 actually works via retroarch lol.

Hey man, that’s great news. I’m really glad to hear you got it worked out, and thanks for posting your solution. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful (no iOS device :()
