Xbox one bluetooth ghost presses

Hello, I just transferred my emulation station retroarch setup from a Asus mini vivo to a msi trident 3. Since doing this, I am getting drop in connection and ghost presses on my Xbox one bluetooth controllers. Please help!!

Unfortunately, that doesn’t sound like anything we can help with. That is, I can’t think of anything inside of RetroArch that would cause such a problem. Sounds more like a driver/bluetooth issue.

By chance would you have any suggestions to fixing this. I have checked all the bluetooth drivers. Just to clarify, in emulationstation and retroarch i am getting additional button presses. For instance, if I’m playing mario and move to the left or right and take my thumb off the dpad or analog stick he keeps running. Also in emulationstation, when scrolling through the menus this occurs. Periodically the controller will stop working then start. This was not an issue on my last pc. Everything on this msi desktop say bluetooth is working fine.

If it’s happening inside EmulationStation’s menus, it’s definitely not a RetroArch issue. I would look at the controller driver first. I don’t know which OS you’re running, but assuming it’s Windows, try opening up the controller properties window (where it shows the buttons being pressed) and see if you can reproduce the behavior. If so, see if the applet is showing the buttons being held down incorrectly, as well. If that’s the case, then it is likely the gamepad driver, so you could try uninstalling/reinstalling the driver. If not, it’s something else.

The controller is working fine in Windows. What other suggestions do you have? I uninstalled and reinstalled everything. The controllers are still freaking out.

Which OS are you using? What is “everything”? I doubt I’ll be able to suggest much, but having more information is helpful.

I am using window 10. By “everything” i started with a fresh install of emulationstation and retroarch. Uploaded mario and still have the same issue.

Yeah, I don’t think it’s a problem with EmulationStation or RetroArch. I think it’s lower-level.

Did you do the steps I described with the gamepad info applet? You could also try reinstalling directx. In RetroArch, you could try changing your input driver to dinput or SDL and see if that helps at all, though it wouldn’t change anything for ES.

I did do the steps you suggested. I am currently in the process of resetting the pc to factory and stating all over from square one. Hopefully that works. If not I’m guess there is a bad bluetooth on this desktop? Would you agree?

Hmm, could be. Do you have any other Bluetooth pads you can test?

Just the 2 Xbox controllers.

I hate to have to ask this, but have you checked the batteries in your controllers? I’ve had crazy operation like that when using batteries that were too weak to keep the connection steady.

Yes the batteries have been tested. They also work perfectly on my last mini pc running retroarch. I have been bouncing in between the two double checking my settings. I’m hoping it’s just a defective bluetooth.

Just don’t use Windows

What other OS would you recomend? I am sending back the msi trident 3 today. Hopefully the new unit has no issues. If not, I guess I will keep my Asus Vivo mini. I just wanted to run the games at a much higher resolution.

If the batteries are fine, then it almost has to be the Bluetooth receiver. Like I said I’ve gotten crazy operation like ghost presses and long presses whenever Bluetooth goes haywire. I know that both of my Logitech keyboard /track pad combos hate it when I set them directly on my lap as they become slow to respond or get my track pad input wrong entirely. If I put a pillow on top of my legs as a spacer and put the keyboard on top the pillow I have no issues. The problem was only exacerbated by having the Bluetooth dongle plugged into the back of the computer instead of on the front. You may be experiencing a similar issue of interference. Not all bluetooth receivers are created equal and some are more susceptible to interference over others. For example neither of the Bluetooth dongles that I bought for both of my computers care about if they are plugged into the front or back of my computers and I’ve never had a unsteady sync when using my Wiimotes with them. I would try relocating the computer in a different spot or bringing it closer to you or something. The Bluetooth receiver in your MSI computer may not be defective. It may just be weak. Either way it’s a relatively inexpensive fix as a good Bluetooth dongle is only 15 bucks. However if the computer is still under warranty I’d be taking that shit back.

Thank you for the insight! Yes, I did return the computer today should hopefully have the new unit tomorrow. More fun testing ahead.

hey guys I just wanted to let you know that this issue was the bluetooth on the unit. I received the new desktop and everything is working perfectly fine.
