Zip Compressed Thumbnails?

Hi, does anyone know if RetroArch will work with ZIP compressed thumbnails?

e.g. a ZIP archive containing thumbnails, instead of loose files.

I recently compressed 47083 PNG Snap files for MAME (the exe not the core), into a single ZIP. MAME supports the ZIP and can view the PNG snaps as I pick a different game in MAME.

In RetroArch I recently tested using a MAME DAT file and importing all my MAME ROMs as a playlist into Retroarch. This was very fast and all the games appear to be available.

So the next step was to add the Snaps for thumbnails. I tried using the snaps straight from MAME; I uncompressed my Snap archive with the files loose into a folder titled Named_Snaps and Retroarch worked well with them. So then I tried a few combinations of compressing the files, but they didn’t seem to work.

Does anyone know if this is possible? Or perhaps I could launch the game in the MAME core, then Tab back to MAME’s internal menu and have the snaps work from there?

RetroArch doesn’t support loading images from compressed archives, but the mame core’s internal OSD should (probably) work the same as the standalone program.

I will try to get it working internally :+1:
