4K Vertical Overlay Community Contributions

I was planning to translate all HSM-MB presets to Koko-aio, but considering most of the job is already done with Uborder, maybe I can start fine tuning those automatic generated presets. Of course, some things will be missing like vector, multi screen and transparent overlays games. I´ve discussed that with @Hyllian in I´m sure he will support those too in the future. Oh, and the “dinamic marquee” feature I asked him

Once I have a nice list of files, I´ll let you know for uploading.

I remade the presets so that you don’t need to turn Vertical Mode ON in Core Options. You just need to put your SO in portrait mode (thanks to @K-rnivoro that passed me this info) and load Multigame.slangp.

I ran a bit of Star Wars with your great 3D work last night and was wondering if you had done any others like Sega Hang On or anything with the 3D treatment that I might have missed. Not meant to be a request, but if there are any out there I’m not using I would like to get them in my library. Thanks again for this.

If it can help, @walter.farmacia has done Super Hang-On (1987) Sega

Thanks for that. It looks great, but doesn’t work for horizontal users. We need the full cabinet shot with transparent background, like the Star Wars shot, above, to work into our presets. Again, it does look great and if Walter wants to share those resource files, that is most appreciated.

Don’t know if you know This one; It’s from Mr Retrolust but i think, need a bit of clean…

Sorry, I’ve only just seen this post! It’s gone a little quiet on here, hope everyone’s doing well! @ArsInvictus, hope you’re still making a good recovery :crossed_fingers:

@Drybonz (and @oneshout if it interests you) Actually, I do have a nice one for super hang on, I didn’t upload it straight away when I made it because @walter.farmacia dropped his and as I hadn’t quite finished it I didn’t want to double up and away from that version - there’s an unfinished outrun and Thunder Blade somewhere too!

The artwork is made extra large for the whole machine so I can easily make a horizontal version, I’ll give it a quick spit and polish and upload the vertical overlay here asap too.

Here’s a quick photo of the vertical 4k on my cab

EDIT: @Boz1978 @Drybonz just uploaded a video which does it more justice

That is killer. You do great work, PapaShine. If you happen to have the original resources you made for that, that could be used in a landscape setup (like the one you uploaded for Star Wars), I’m sure a lot of people would like to use that as well as the vertical guys.

That looks spot on realistic. I’m still using the one from the MAME pack that looks like it was photographed on an old Motorola flip phone. lol.

Thank you @Drybonz  This overlay is actually made with the entire cabinet in view; so Handlebars, full cab sides with speakers and all, It’s just cropped for the vertical overlay, but I can easily make a horizontal one (or landscape) for you - Sorry if it wasn’t clear in my post!

If you can do that without too much trouble… I am thinking landscape monitor guys, like myself, would all like to use any of your work you want to share in that format. :+1:

Rush’n Attack / Green Beret 4K Vertical Overlay (Konami 1985)

Rush’n Attack, also known as Green Beret in Japan and Europe, is a run-and-gun and hack-and-slash video game developed and released by Konami for arcades in 1985, and later converted to the Nintendo Entertainment System and home computers. Its North American title is a play on the phrase “Russian attack” due to its Cold War setting. It was ported to home systems and became a critical and commercial success for arcades and home computers.

The attached zip files contain control panel views with generic bezels like the arcade original, a custom bezel modified from Krakerman (Rush’n Attack only), and coin door views.

It was only in the last couple of years I noticed the likely correlation of some of these game names

  • Rush’N Attack - Russian Attack?
  • Bay Route - Beirut?
  • Ikari Warriors - Iraki Warriors?

“Punny” titles to reference real places or events. Although Ikari Warriors is apparently named for the Japanese title for Rambo: First Blood Part II (Rambo: Ikari no Dasshutsu)

Here’s a list of others:  Punny Game Titles

Ah yeah that would make sense, the character sprites definitely remind me of Rambo

In the pun list this one is fun

Avengers 4K Vertical Overlay (Capcom 1987)

Avengers (known in Japan as Hissatsu Buraiken ) is a 1986 arcade beat 'em up game developed and published by Capcom. Directed by Takashi Nishiyama, who also worked on classics like Kung-Fu Master (1984) and Street Fighter (1987), the game takes place in Paradise City , where the villain Geshita has kidnapped six girls. Players take on the roles of Ryu or Ko , fighting to rescue the victims and defeat Geshita for good.

Gameplay features a variety of power-ups, including Speed Up, Super Punch, and weapons like Grenades, Shurikens, and Nunchaku. Players can discover hidden areas by breaking doors within the levels, and combat revolves around three attack types: Punches (quick but short-range), Kicks (slower but longer-range), and the Roundhouse, which strikes in a 360-degree motion.

The attached zip file contains control panel and coin door views: avengers.zip

I restored an official arcade bezel from images I sourced online. Since a scan of the bezel isn’t currently available, I think this copy looks decent for now.

Here’s a link to the full resolution copy of the bezel for anyone interested: https://mega.nz/file/X5kzFABa#8SUoEO3TwiMevG1kYSI_ZAZPnIS3zzfrHG_MHkD6VYk
