4K Vertical Overlay Community Contributions

I love your Horizon marquee and bezel… looks like it could have been the original art.

hi, where can i download this and where to put in retroarch please

Hi, I’m still working away on my collection then I will be uploading them all somewhere, just not sure where yet. Currently I’m at 740 4k vertical bezels, all including the required . lay file as well (I use a utility that thankfully looks at the image, sees the transparency area, and calculates the dimensions, putting it all in a . lay file for me automatically).

In the meantime I might get a dir dump of file names so people can see what ones I have, although as the filename has to match the MAME rom name, a lot will make little sense. I’ve also done a bezel for all 13 variants of Space Invaders, although in a few cases there were zero bezels available, not even poor ones to give me an idea of what it should look like, so I’ve had to use fan art to have a “best guess”

Wasn’t happy with a few of my Metal Slug bezels:

Hi there, first of all, thank you very much for all the contributions, especially those from the great ArsInvictus.

I am looking for better immersion in vertical MAME regarding the screen area.

I have customized a horizontal bezel concept featuring a full screen display, using artwork by ArsInvictus.

I hope you like it, suggestions are welcome:

Some full-screen vertical overlays for MAME (to be honest, I’m not a big fan of RetroArch—sorry—so you’ll have to adapt them yourselves):

Thank you - much appreciated. How are you using your bezels ? I have tried Retrobat and the MAME standalone, where the .png and .lay file are in a zip file with the same name as the MAME rom, but in vertical mode, no matter what I do, I cannot get any CRT filter, or curve to work. Nothing. I thought it was maybe due to using the non libreto core ?

Iva also tried in Batocera, and converted the .lay into the required .info file, but no matter what, the “playing area” is way waaaaay too big, so Im pulling my hair out.

Hi all, I hope this link may be of some interest :

Lol, I use MAME standalone with HLSL on Windows. It’s not the latest version, but works fine with my whole setup (filters, curvature, bloom…). If you’re interested, I can share it…

Hi, Any help in getting a curved crt look with MAME would be very VERY helpful!

In Retrobat, which I use, the MAME choices are:

LIBRETO: MAME, LIBRETO: MAME2016, LIBRETO: MAME2014, LIBRETO: MAME2010, LIBRETO: MAME2003 PLUS, LIBRETO: MAME2003, LIBRETO: MAME2003 MIDWAY, LIBRETO: MAME2000, MAME64, GROOVYMAME

And, the core I use is the “standalone” MAME64 (it was the only core I could get my vertical bezels to work with, due to my limited knowledge in setting them up).

Literally every filter / shader guide I read said boot up a game, and simply press the “~” to open up the on screen display.
Well, that button did nothing.

What I tried was to do a “per game” setup, by selecting a game, then going into the “VISUAL RENDERING” options, then:

  • making the top option read “BGFX VIDEO FILTER” = “CRT SIMULATION”
  • making “GLSL VIDEO FILTER” = “CRT-GEOM (ARCADE SCREEN EFFECT)”
  • make “EFFECT” = “SCANLINES”

But, there is no obvious CRT curve, and its only on a per game basis, when I have over 740 MAME games…
