Thanks @aspernormal! That’s very cool, I really have no insight into how many people actually are using my overlays out there, so it’s nice to see your setup. Thanks for sharing!
And, yes, the reflective bezels totally make it.

Gunbird 2 Update
This game gets a disproportionate amount of attention from me, just because it’s so juicily good.
Someday I gotta translate the instruction card.
Updated here with both dark and light versions:
Mace 4K Vertical Overlay
I’ve been sitting on this one for a while. I’d purchased both the marquee and instruction cards off eBay but one was missing during shipment. Fortunately, I was recently able to find the other card from an online seller and scanned it in as well.
So, the game seems pretty fun but there are some graphical glitches, at least on my version. It was nostalgic to see this game used 3Dfx graphics, which I have very fond memories of running on my computer.
Loved my Voodoo logic 3DFX card, tomb raider was a game changer on that! Gauntlet legacy has always had major graphics issues in mame due to the 3Dfx emulation, crazy that they cause problems even today! I’ll check this one out When I have time to play - thanks as always @ArsInvictus, great authentic feel to this one too.
Yeah I fondly remember those Voodoo cards, at the time, it was a revelation and revolution to have those 3D graphics on the PC. The other Glide games that blew me away at the time… Mechwarrior 2, still my favorite mech game of all time. Quake II, because, well Quake. And Wipeout XL! I’m still a fan of the Wipeout series up through PS4 and would love to see something new for PS5, but anticipating we’ll just get a minor graphics uplift to the current title again.
Omg, I totally forgot about those! I remember loading mech warrior 2 up just to look at the graphics - such an amazing time to see that bump in performance, it was like someone switching the light on and the first time PC’s stepped above consoles in 3D too. wipeout was stunning, blew me away! If you want to take that to next level you should try the PS4 collection on the PSVR, absolutely amazing experience, feels like your really piloting those ships
It looks more believeable this way. IMO the effect should be subtle. Too bad HDR isn’t available on Retroarch. There appears to be a vignet effect around the marquee – it adds to the realism. Is that intended?
I’m considering getting an ultra cheap 4K TV just for this. It looks fantastic. Nice job!
Glad you are interested in the format! Yeah, I do a number of things to the marquee image to make it appear more realistic, so that is intentional.
I have a 40" Vizio 4K TV that was only a little over $200, though if you are looking to buy one for this format I would step up to a 43" model, as the screens can be on the small side with 40". I think the 43" category has a lot more options available and can also be had for a little over $200.
NFL Blitz 4K Vertical Overlay
I restored the instruction cards here and they are available for download on MameWorld. The scans were all sourced from @MrDo.
I did both dark and bright versions as well:
Updated Bionic Commando
Many thanks to Doc Mack for generously making this scan of the bezel artwork available to the community! I did a light clean up on the bezel as it was already in very good condition and just removed some dirtiness in a few areas and some spots.
I’ve also updated this with the latest techniques and assets from @PapaShine such as the coin door.
I’ve placed both dark and bright versions out on the dropbox:
Dragon Spirit 4K Overlay
I was able to use a vector version of the bezel here with a photo I took of the instructions at Galloping Ghost to put together a complete bezel graphic (the vector version was missing the instructions).
I ended up using a photo of the marquee as the only scan available was missing too much of the bottom portion.
I’ve done both dark and bright versions:
Arabian
I restored the marquee from a scan found on Mr. Do’s drive, unfortunately, the scan had been damaged (I think by a prior restoration attempt, but not sure) so there are still some issues with the purple buildings in the background I will try to revisit in the future. But for now, I wanted to get an overlay out there. I’m not sure who did the restore work on the bezel in this case, but it looks great.
I’ve done dark and bright versions:
Set of Capcom Big Blue Cab overlays
Thanks to @Thoggo for passing along his Big Blue format. I created Big Blue versions of the following games:
Eco Fighter Cyberbots X-Men Children of the Atom Darkstalkers Street Fighter Alpha 2 Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Those overlays look amazing, anything with a large marquee looks pretty impressive but those are ridiculous!!
Thanks for sharing the sweet overlay elements Your big blue @Thoggo (played through the whole of alien vs predator with your overly for the first time last week!) and great work filling in some Missing blanks @ArsInvictus!!
Have you got captain commando in this format? I Have only ever seen the standard marquee for it
Thanks @PapaShine! Galloping Ghost has the Captain Commando in big blue format. I’m going to check with Doc Mack if it is OK to take a photo. If so, I’ll put out the overlay for it
@ArsInvictus, your work is absolutely mind-blowing and truly a beautiful thing. Thanks for all the time and talent you’ve put into this. Truly outstanding stuff!
I’m new to all of this and looking to build a countercade the same size as the Arcade1Up countercades, so space for hardware will be limited. I plan to use a 20" 16:9 1080P monitor mounted vertically.
Can anyone provide guidance on the minimum class of hardware needed to support these overlays and the amazing HSM Mega Bezel shader using one of its simplified presets? Also, what hardware is needed for the Mega Bezel with one of its base presets?
Any shared expertise on this is greatly appreciated.
Hi @tommyb, welcome to the forums! I’m glad you like the format
I would say that a 20" monitor with 1080P would leave you with a very small screen area which I’m not sure would be very playable, if you haven’t already, I’d download some overlays and set them up on that monitor to see if it is acceptable to you.
I can’t give you guidance on the shader performance, I’m using an Nvidia GTX1060 and have not had any problem with performance, and it is probably overkill. @HyperspaceMadness, who created that shader might have more info to share on that.
Thanks for the info and welcome, @ArsInvictus!
I agree, the cab will be small. The Arcade1Up countercades that I’m modeling this after use an 8" screen along with static bezel and marquee artwork. The inside measurements are around 10 1/2 inches wide, 17 inches tall and 11 inches deep.I’m hoping that scaling the art down to 1080P will still look great on the smaller display while reducing the hardware load.
A decased 20" screen barely fits in the cabinet with the bottom 4 inches covered by the control panel. I will probably cut mine to be a little taller so that the display is fully visible.
Here’s a pic of the Arcade1Up unit for reference. The 20" display will take up the entire marquee and bezel areas.
Since were mounting vertically, if you’d like the best viewing angle, consider an IPS monitor. Others may disagree, but it’s improved image quality for me:

TN panels can be great too though
