Thanks as always @Dreamstate, hope the CPO’s are a welcome addition!

I did the same thing, and finally played it last night. I was happy to find it was quite an enjoyable classic shooter!

Just wanted to share a full render of @PapaShine’s 3D work on this one, as often much of the actual model is cut off in the overlays due to space issues. There’s a lot of attention to detail that goes into these things and hope you guys will appreciate the exceptional effort that’s involved!

Someday maybe I’ll create a version of these things for a portrait ultrawide monitor just so we can display the entire cab

@PapaShine & @ArsInvictus

I have to say these control panels are really amazing, and you’ve found a way to add the 3D control panel without making it distracting.

Really wicked, It feels like just the right balance of clean design and realistic texture

@ArsInvictus, you all really continue to raise the bar! Amazing stuff.

I have a RetroArch newb question that I haven’t found an answer for - when you create standard and large screen variations for a game, can both versions be set up and easily switch between them? Maybe I haven’t come up with the right search term to find the answer.

Thanks again for the stunning work!

Hey @tommyb, thanks again!

Unfortunately, I don’t think there is a simple way, as the way Retroarch manages the overlays, there is really only one set of X/Y/W/H coordinate settings per rom. So while you can switch the overlay graphics themselves fairly easily just be selecting a different overlay config, you would need to manually adjust the video settings to adjust.

MAME does a much better job with this with the LAY files, and Retroarch does support LAY files, but there are some limitations in terms of the shader support, and drivers with which it works. It’s something I need to experiment with, because if I can switch to using LAY for these, then it would be much simpler for everyone. If the shaders basically work, then I think we can just switch to LAY and there wouldn’t be a big downside that I can think of.

correct, but I think you can load in an alternative game config file (1942_large.cfg) that has different X,Y bla, bla and a ref to another overlay config file (_large) that is set for a different layout image. But I haven’t tried myself yet. the only thing is I think Retroarch only looks at the rom name first so that would be your default layout. I don’t think it remembers your last config used. and if you save any changes i wonder to which file it saves?? I hope I/it makes some sense, because it’s confusing, I would love to see the coordinates in the overlay file, then it would be easier to switch.

Yes, you could try that, but I think Retroarch always uses the exact Rom name, so I don’t know how to deal with that.

Thanks @ArsInvictus and @Briball for your thoughts on Retroarch overlays and video scaling. I thought that was the case, but was hoping there was a way to do it that I hadn’t discovered yet. @Briball, I will play around with what you suggested to see if I can somehow make it work. Otherwise I will be giving the Mame LAY files a try. Cheers!

Here are the first couple Neo-Geo titles with the new Big Red template we’ve created.

As I mentioned in the prior post this leverages the work done by Mr. RetroLust from the Launchbox forums for the marquee, but with a new main marquee design by myself with additional lighting effects. Also, the CPO and bezel were 3d modeled and rendered by @Papashine. I’ll be working on these in parallel with my other overlays over the coming weeks, but plan to have all 150+ Neo Geo games available in this format.

I’ve created a separate directory on my dropbox to keep them together:

Pulstar and Garou - Mark of the Wolves

These NeoGeo are looking absolutely fantastic,. This way I’m almost feeling forced to make a vertical cab. Just need to figure out how to explain to my wife why a second arcade cabinet is necessary in the house, hahah

Absolutely gorgeous overlays as usual @ArsInvictus! These are going to be epic!!

Yeah looking awesome! Seeing @ArsInvictus’ overlays earlier this year were what convinced me that what I really wanted was a vertical cabinet. Mind you I luckily hadn’t built my cabinet yet.

The NEO GEO overlay is looking really great, and that control panel feels really real, excellent work @ArsInvictus & @PapaShine!

Yep @Bullfrog, once you experience this format on a large screen (recommend 43+), you won’t want to play these games in any other format. Having every cab emulated with complete, crisp, clean artwork is just a very immersive experience and it’s impossible to replicate it as well in any other way (other than having every original cabinet in your home, but I’m guessing your wife will like that even less lol).

Glad you are thinking to join the vertical cab revolution!

Updated Solar Warrior overlay with CPO

For this one there was no scan of the CPO available so I recreated it in vector format from reference images. It’s not an exact copy, but it’s a good representation.

Thanks to @PapaShine for the 3d render and his hints in helping me learn Adobe Illustrator!

This was another @HyperspaceMadness request as well.

I’ve got two versions out there, the default has a cropped bezel and larger screen area, but there is a full bezel version for purists:

Is all your future bezels will have control panel this idea is so amazing that i started to think about joining vertical familly ;p Need to tell my wife

Can You share some information about tv you using how its mounted on vesa to wall ?

Hey @BlackTiger, good to hear you are looking into a vertical cab setup! I myself am using a RecRoomMasters 40" vertical pedestal cabinet, though I don’t know if they are continuing to offer it. They do have some smaller models available, but I feel they are too small for this format.

We have a web site that @Thoggo has been putting a lot of work into, and he’s got a page there with some different options: https://www.verticalarcade.com/resources.

I think for a custom build, the vCabinet designs are pretty nice and they offer both wall mounted and floor standing plans.

For the Neo Geo overlay, that clipping is by design. The top of the CP is placed with the edges aligned to the edge of the screen, so the left and right are clipped due to the perspective. This is a concession we felt was necessary to make the CPO feel “right” to the viewer. But the CP is centered properly, the button getting clipped is just incidental.

Hope this helps!

Here is a shot of my cab setup. I still have an older RRM horizontal sit down cab, but I’m probably going to sell it, as I haven’t really used it since I got the vertical.
