Exciting news about that upcoming Truxton CPO. That’ll be fun! Thanks
Wow. I was away for some time, and had to get up to date with not only amazing art being created, but by a more formalized team of great artists! This project is shaping up awesomely
Loved your thoughts post @ArsInvictus, as an IT excecutive you are an awesome artist and writer
And welcome @MrRetroLust! Glad to have you in the RA community as well.
Updated Final Fight 4K Vertical Overlay
There aren’t any visual updates here, just putting it into the new zip format for distribution and in both MAME and Retroarch format. I’ll be doing this for all my overlays over time, which will be a long process.
1944: The Loop Master 4K Vertical Overlay
I wanted to squeeze out an actual new overlay for a change, so I’ve put one together for 1944. There is no good image of the original marquee available so I created a custom marquee from a scan of an arcade flyer I purchased off ebay. I’ve also done vector recreations of the control panel stickers, so once the render for that is ready (which is the same sticker set as for 19XX), I’ll update this to include that as well.
Updated In The Hunt
This version uses a much nicer scan and restoration of the marquee provided by RaspBear on the Mameworld forums in addition to the other graphic updates.
I doubt there will ever be an CPO version of this game as it’s very difficult to find. If anyone has it available though, please pass it my way.
EDIT: I brightened the bezel a bit, it was unintentionally too dark.
Updated Ninja Baseball Bat Man
I’ve updated with a restore provided by @MrRetroLust off a scan provided by @MrDo. I’m not sure on the source for the marquee here, I pulled it down from somewhere long ago and don’t remember where. Fortunately, I’ve reached out to the original creator for this game, who has the official rights to both the artwork and title, and he’s generously agreed to share a scan of the original marquee with us (when he gets home to California in a couple months). I’ll update it with that then, but for now I did some minor cleanup on the low quality copy I used here.
I’ve done both full bezel and large screen versions for this one:
Updated Golden Axe Overlay
No big changes here, just a general graphics overhaul and new zip files. Both full bezel and large screen options available.
Mystic Marathon
Lo! Finally, it is complete
This lovely overlay
Another classic Williams game
For all of you to play
The story is about a race
Across meadow and stream
Told of in legends, long ago
As if it was a dream
Your goal is simple, dearest friends
Just run until you win
Or if by chance you fall face-first
Well, you can start again
The bezel for this game was lost
Now, carefully restored
Our thanks to Mr. Do and friends
Our mead for them is poured
(This game has its own rhyming verse intro so I couldn’t resist. I painstakingly restored this bezel, which I think you’ll agree is worth it for this lovely artwork. Please note, this overlay has two versions, the darker one on the right was designed to emulate a dark arcade look with a glow on the CPO. Thanks to @PapaShine for the CPO render.)
That is the world’s first arcade overlay poetry! A great day for history, and Mystic Marathon!
Shadow Dancer Update now with Control Panel render!
Here is an updated version of Shadow Dancer which incorporates a shiny new CPO render from @PapaShine. There are both full bezel with the CPO and a large screen version with just the bezel.
Alas, I am too tired to compose a haiku about this game, but I hope you enjoy it anyway!
Fantastic update to Shadow Dancer, Ars and PapaShine. I think you guys nailed the lighting on this one. Dark enough to be plenty “vibey,” but bright enough to bring out all the detail in the artwork. You two are genuine artists. Also love that links are presented right alongside the preview images. Top notch, fellas!
Updated Out Zone
Just a basic style update again here, though I did replace the marquee with a better copy sourced from @MrDo’s site.
This is another cab where it seems the CPO is very hard to find (though last time I said that for In The Hunt, @Briball found a decent photograph that we can use for a future CPO version).
Updated Street Fighter III: Third Strike
In addition to the general graphic updates such as the plastic bezel and other trim from @PapaShine, I used a higher quality scan of the marquee from @MrDo. I also purchased and scanned the instruction cards used here.
GigaWing Control Panel Update
I’m really excited about this update to the GigaWing overlay, which features a fresh new 3D CPO render by @PapaShine. The control panel stickers for the joystick and buttons were recreated by myself based on a combination of reference photos, high resolution scans from arcade flyers I’d purchased for this game in the past, as well as other vectorizations I’d done for other Capcom games that used the same overall design.
So with this update, we have the complete set of GigaWing artwork on display, something which is extremely rare to find anywhere at this time. Hope any other GigaWing fans out there are half as happy about this one as I am!
Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Control Panel version
Another Capcom CP 3d Render from @PapaShine, this time for Street Fighter! I vectorized the CP stickers again for this one and I believe this same sticker set can be used for at least 2 of the 3 SF Alpha series, but I haven’t been able to confirm that conclusively, given the amount of cross-pollination across the conversion cabs I’ve seen reference images of.
In The Hunt Control Panel Version
So, an hour after I said I couldn’t find the CPO anywhere and we’d likely never have a version of this game with the CP, @Briball successfully tracked down a clean enough copy to use for the render by @PapaShine.
Happy to have the full art set for this one too!
Wow! Three in one day. Thanks so much, team. These look beautiful. I’m the Hunt is especially stunning!
Control Panel Version of Ghouls’N Ghosts
This overlay was thanks to the magnificent CPO recreation done by Lord Hiryu from the arcadecontrols forum, as he has generously shared this artwork back with the community. Thanks again to @PapaShine for the excellent 3D render as well.
Street Fighter Alpha: Warrior’s Dreams 4K Vertical Overlay
As near as I can tell, no instruction strips were released for the US version of the game, so the only art available is the marquee and the control panel stickers.
Just noticed the texturing on the GigaWing bezel. Quite nice! Excellent realism here combined with that awesome CPO.
