I don’t know how to make the marquee to follow the lower layer image.

I can’t find the option to follow the cabinet glass image I used for placement. What do I have to use from those five options?

It doesn’t look like e cabinet glass is available to follow, so I think you would want to assign the lower layer image to the decal image, then assign the marquee to the top layer and get the top layer to follow the decal layer.

Night Slashers 4K Vertical Overlay

I’ve been meaning to update this one with the newly scanned marquee I posted a while back and finally got around to it. This one is a little challenging in terms of getting the art right. There’s almost no images of this cabinet around and only a handful probably exist, on of which is at Galloping Ghost, and they’ve got the art available for sale on their site. But comparing that art to the shots of the actual cabinet there are differences. The original art didn’t seem to have any sort of “cloud” type effect in the bezel or control panel, it looked like it was a simple gradient on the bezel and flat on the CPO. So I’m not sure what is going on there.

The bezel that is floating around and was used by @walter.farmacia is well done and accurate from the design standpoint, but the colors ranged from blue to purple, while the original seems to be from purple at the top to black.

I also think the yellow in the CPO was not as saturated as that on the bezel. I took a lot of guidance from this print ad that came out with the game release:

The image is small, and it may have been pre-production art, but I’ve pulled the colors directly from that image as it’s the most likely appearance at the time of release. The existing art has discolored so badly over the years I don’t think it’s a reliable source at this point.

Anyway, I adjusted the colors in the bezel to match the other photos I’ve seen and I also recreated the control panel overlay from various sources, such as flyers and other photographs.

The completed overlay is available on the google drive now:

It’s a pretty awesome beat-em-up and a lot of people feel it’s the best of them all, it’s a shame it didn’t get more recognition on release, another victim of the times.

This is my first attempt for a generic overlay, able to dinamically show any marquee, including a default when no specific marquee is present. Thanks @ArsInvictus for the overlay, and @HyperspaceMadness for the support. Of course this is more a “proof of concept”, it can be improved in some many ways. Even reflection is not properly setup. For now, just horizontal games overlay is available.

There is no need to change any file, it can be just added to the current set of files from @ArsInvictus GDrive.

You can download the pack from here (Edit: Includes improvements from the post below):

The pack creates a new folder name marquees in the VerticalArcade folder, also add some $GAME$ files to your CORE-ASPECT-ORIENT-HORZ and a file in textures folder:

marquees is the folder where you have to put all your marquees. I’ve included some marquees as example in the pack already. Anyway I’m still building a nice collection so I’m still sorting them, but you can find it here:

Some clarifications: Given @ArsInvictus designed a plastic bezel, I tried to use the full_Plastic_Bezel_Reflect_Mask.png but I realized it does not match the same position than the NeoGeo games, so I think it has to be redone.

I choosed .jpg for marquees to reduce file size. Sometimes it doesn’t work properly and the default marquee is shown, mostly when the image aspect ratio is way off from the default AR.

Marquees will be stretched to fill the entire area, so for those with more “squared” aspect ratio, it will be more noticeable. Look at the Knights of the Round and Katto Base games.

I hope you like it. I’ll be more than happy to try with different overlays.

Take a look at a new param file I put out there for Metal Black, since that one had a different position as well. @HyperspaceMadness had suggested we can use the following to automatically line up the mask:

HSM_REFLECT_MASK_FOLLOW_LAYER = “3.000000”

It seemed to work ok for Metal Black, give it a shot and let me know if it helps!

The hardest part of all this is learning Mega Bezel parameters, but once you do I can tell you it’s super easy.

Thanks @ArsInvictus!! You’re right!! Now it looks much better, mostly at the corners. I’m updating the $GAME$ file from pack of the previous post.

Regarding Metal Black, I’ve downloaded the files (including ars_plastic_bezel.params) but I see a very dim reflection, almost inexistent. Not sure if it is as intended.

Yeah I had toned it down on the reflection and increased the fade, I probably took it to far and will have to go back and adjust it back up

Glad that worked for you!

And also feel free to tweak my $GAME$.params file!!

I can’t wait for your vertical games “universal” overlayl!!!

This is awesome! You have a link for that curved monitor? My day job work setup is a 4x4 24" flat screen setup which works great. But these new curved monitors are looking really nice.

I see that powered desk also! I have a “Geek Desk” just like that both at my work and at home. Love it. I never thought about using it for a vertical setup like that. I’m still trying to figure out how I want to get a vertical setup in the mix in my rec/bar room.

Here you go, it’s the Samsung 57 inch Neo G9. It’s basically equivalent to two 4k 32" monitors merged together. I mostly use it for my work honestly, and editing these files. But I sit in front of it like 12 hours a day pretty often so it’s a good investment. Pricey as monitors go though:

The curve took some getting used to but I don’t really notice it anymore.

Yeah, I like the flexibility this offers. I can switch the monitor over to horizontal for other games and plug whatever controller I want in and just raise the desk when I want to get that arcade feel. I figure I can build some dedicated controllers for games like Defender that had unusual control schemes too. And then it’s extra desk space for when I need it for work or some other project.

I’ve made the params version for vertical dynamic overlays. Thanks to @ArsInvictus for the generic overlay. Like the horizontal version, no files are replaced. Just decompress the file in your VerticalArcade folder. I’ve added the marquees for the games below. Amigo and '99 The Last War, are clones of Amidar and Repulse respectively.

Edit: I don’t know why, but sometimes Mega Bezel confuses the aspect ratio of vertical games, like Ketsui ket.zip, so the overlay is correctly displayed, but the games is fully horizontally stretched.

Just add HSM_ASPECT_RATIO_ORIENTATION = "2.000000" to the $GAME$.params file in your CORE-ASPECT-ORIENT-VERT folder.

Baraduka 4K Vertical Overlay

I decided to rework the Baraduka artwork with a different bezel design, this matches the original artwork in the marquee a little better as well as the font design.

Improved (dark) version of Ketsui, and light version too.

Just to clarify, are all these new overlays going to be uploaded to the vertical arcade website or are they hosted on one of the Google Drive links above?

It’s just in this Google Drive…it’s a mix of vertical arcade website + @ArsInvictus, @Briball, @sorbeppe, @walter.farmacia and much more also

Except the files for the dynamic marquees. Those need to be download separately from my posts. At least for now. I guess we should build a pack once we get some kind of milestone-ish…
