4K Vertical Overlay Community Contributions

I think I got it in with some stuff from P3st… it probably did come from Orionsangel originally. I use a lot of stuff from other packs, so I forget where it all came from. The background I’m using in those screenshots is from Duimon. Thanks to everyone who has contributed bits and pieces to my own personal theming.

Yeah, MAME has a good emulation of the corner dots, which I think fbneo does not

Thanks! I’ve been hunting T Molding assets for years, but if I can’t find any I just make them from scratch. I try not to always reuse them on different bezels, but at the same time IRL Arcade cabinets are reused like crazy for different games. They just change the artwork. So reusing T Moldings for bezels just falls in line with real Arcade cabinets.

Alien Syndrome @papashine Style

I’ve finally gotten around to adding this one to the megabezel share:

MegaBezel Vertical Overlay Pack

It looks amazing @PapaShine! Thanks for sharing :star_struck:

Amazing work. You’re taking it to the next level.

Thanks @ArsInvictus! So pleased you like the update, I love leaving this one running on my cab at the moment, those lights reflect beautifully onto the physical control panel. I’ve adjusted the MAME tech details for this to ramp up the screen gamma and dialled up the vignette quite a bit to punch up the contrast, it gives it some more atmosphere as it’s quite washed out usually, works really well!! @Orionsangel, I really appreciate your enthusiasm, your horizontal overlays were the gateway into all of this for me

Black Tiger Custom 4k Vertical Overlay (CAPCOM / ROMSTAR 1987)

I absolutely adore this bastard of a game, the first time I played (and died straight away, obviously!!) it was on my Amiga 500 and I loved the art on the box and the logo (along with the art for the arcade flyers) must have had the poster on my wall for a few years! When I finally saw the Arcade machine many years later I loved it but was puzzled by the choice of the artwork, the logo and how off-model the main character was, nothing like the game’s art!

Now, don’t get me wrong, I have a real soft spot for the original and usually like to keep things as authentic as possible but I decided to do a custom art overlay as an homage to that beautiful artwork so I can display it on my cab (I think I might put some fur on his hips to cover his butt )

This is still a bit of a WIP really, I’ve done allot of photoshop work to extend the art thats available and make it all fit on this, as well as keep it looking somewhat authentic to CAPCOM’s other cabs that came along a little later (Magic Sword etc) but thought I’d share it as it is - feel free to chime in if you have any comments.

Edit: Special thanks to @NeoKarnage for the original Cab Artwork set since I posted this earlier, I’ve updated the CPO with the stickers and will produce a full original artwork overlay with CPO as we don’t have one of those yet, long overdue! If anyone’s interested in any future versions of this I’ll happily share.

Love the custom design! I like your CPO to go along with the style you have for the marquee and bezel so I’d leave that IMHO. But getting a higher quality overlay for this game with the original art is also great so I’m glad to hear you will do that too. This game seemed to be at every arcade I visited back in the day so there’s a lot of nostalgia for this one for me

I’m working on an update to my old custom Gradius 3 overlay, here’s a nice vectorized logo in case anyone wants it:

Hah! This is AWESOME! Black Tiger is probably my favorite arcade game, many hours standing in front of that one.

Awesome to see some of the great art done for this game integrated into a custom overlay!

Thank you @ArsInvictus, so glad you like it! Yes, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve played this with your overlay, so fond of this and the original artwork is iconic if a little janky in places, part of its charm!

I love Gradius 3, I was super impressed with your original custom for that (2019?) , I had not really worked out how the weapons system worked before that and just got frustrated, the instruction cards helped no end  who knew  exacted to see an update on it!!

Totaly agree, it’s got to be in my all time top 5! For it’s replay-ability, nostalgic atmosphere and awesome gameplay- I may not have played the arcade version straight away, but I wouldn’t play any other now! Thinking of either using my custom design or the original cab art on my original CAPCOM CP1 cab as it’s very generic right now

Black Tiger 4k Vertical Overlay CPO update (CAPCOM / ROMSTAR 1987)

As promised, this is my take on the original cab artwork overlay, It’s keeping some elements from the original 4k overlay that @ArsInvictus built a few years back which had a lovely clean marquee and screen bezel so this is sort of a joint effort with him! - I’ve updated it with my current lighting and material techniques and visual polish including 3D cab elements and a new 3D CPO render. Thanks to @NeoKarnage for the CPO art and stickers

@ArsInvictus, @HyperspaceMadness, @NeoKarnage, let me know if this does the trick.

And @NeoKarnage has kindly put together a two view version of this for anyone who wants to switch between the custom and original views in MAME HERE

Fantastic as always. Thank you once more for another impressive overlay. Black Tiger can now be marked as complete.

I’ve compiled a zip file containing both PNG images and a combined .lay file for more convenient view switching in MAME. Here’s a link for those interested:

This was a Photoshop mock up I did of a @Papashine build. I worked with the theme designer of arcadeflow for the Attract Mode frontend to get this working well for the vertical arcade project.

Unfortunately, I was unable to stay involved in the project. I just was not able to create the hardware to build my vertical arcade setup. It was almost maddening how many walls I hit. I check in often to see if there is something I could buy, but there just isn’t. Maybe that new Xarcade TV VR thing might work.

I don’t really have access to any woodworking tools or a CNC, so I’m kind of just a voyeur at this point. The work everyone is doing here still amazes me.

Absolutely beautiful work, as always! I’ll add this to my megabzel gdrive too

Just thought I’d share some good news on my health, for those that remember, I’ve been dealing with a severe heart failure diagnosis for the last 6 months or so now. My heart’s ejection fraction (how much blood it pumps each beat) was down at 15% back in May, but after an MRI last week I am happy to report it is back up to 40%. 50-70% is a normal healthy range and it’s entirely possible if I continue on this trajectory I’ll get back up to that level. My blood flow is already better than the average healthy person’s and my long term prognosis is looking much better! Thanks to all for your well wishes, it’s been quite a journey, but I’m feeling much healthier, grateful and blessed!

Oh wow, Congratulations!!!:muscle:t3: that really is amazing news! I’m so happy and relived to hear your health is on the mend, and your heart is getting stronger and stronger - I think I speak on behalf of everyone here by saying that the world is a far better place with you in it!! Keep up the good work, and please keep us posted on your progress
