That’s awesome stuff m8! Have you tried koko-aio shader on this with the ambi light? I think you could get light onto the cpo and components if it were static but I’m not sure if you had the separate positions. It would look fantastic though if possible
Is there a preferred program that you all use to render these cpo’s? … I’ve only heard of blender
Not sure what other people are using, I’m sure some use blender. I think @PapaShine was using some plugins for aftereffects for at least some of his but he does this kind of thing for a living so I’m sure he could use anything. I always just used photoshop and kind of hacked them together in 2D. I think I’ll be able to put a little app together though using Metal as the renderer that would make it easy for anyone to make these without any modeling experience. The biggest effort will probably be creating the models for the joysticks and buttons, other than that it sounds straight forward. I’ll see how it goes but might take me some time to get it together as I’ve been busy lately.
Have you got any Koko-aio equivalent to the MB params?
No, I never worked on that, I have put some plans and started working on a web platform that would act as a publishing and distribution hub for these overlays and it would take care of cross-platform configuration for any number of overlay or shader solutions but I have been working on some other personal projects ahead of that, unfortunately. I wish I had more time
Sounds awesome, but yeah real life comes first fella
Just thought I’d share a little update on some early progress on the 3d control panel generation app I’m calling 3D-CPO. I have some basic buttons and joysticks and a konami 4 player control panel defined in a procedural model app. I think one more control panel asset and then I’ll pivot over to the actual control panel rendering app that let’s the user drop in the artwork set up the lighting (with some quick and easy presets) and then drop the controls onto it. Fingers crossed it comes out working as well as I hope. It would be easier for me to get back to designing these overlays if I can do them more quickly
This looks very professional!..Excellent work my friend!
Rolling Thunder 4K Vertical Overlay (Atari/Namco 1986)
Hi all, it’s been a while…
Rolling Thunder is a 1986 Namco run‑and‑gun arcade game, released in North America by Atari Games, in which players control Albatross, an agent of the WCPO’s “Rolling Thunder” unit, on a mission to rescue fellow agent Leila Blitz from the terrorist group Geldra in New York. The game became a commercial hit, later ported to multiple home computers in 1987 and to the NES in 1989. Rolling Thunder had a direct impact on the design of Sega’s Shinobi (1987), which refined its formula with tighter controls and smoother animation.
I’ve included the original plastic bezel, a custom bezel based on the marquee design, and a coin door view:

That’s amazing! A windows version would be very much appreciated.
