Updated Samura Shodown 2 overlay

I just updated this with Mr. RetroLust’s marquee lighting. I’ll also try to put some more overlays out that use the dedicated NEO-GEO marquees he restored and did lighting effects for. Really great work and a great contribution to the community on his part.

King of Fighters '94 4K Vertical Overlay

Not 100% sure I like the red bezel here, but…I’ve seen a lot of frankencabs in the arcades over the years, so I’ll go with this for now. Another use of Mr. Retrolust’s excellent Neo Geo marquee collection here too.

SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom

Another Mr. Retrolust marquee on this one. And as usual, a @PapaShine coin door

Updated Defender 4K Vertical Overlay

Here is an updated version of the Defender overlay, there were changes to add panelling to the speaker panel and also updated the speaker to match the original Defender cabinet. I’ve also replaced the coin door with an extremely authentic 3D rendering of the original Defender aluminum coin door by @PapaShine.

The marquee has also been updated with a more authentic lighting effect and colors based on reference photos.

Yeah, there is a matte black panel there with the screws in it in the original cabinet, so it wouldn’t have reflections. I considered just removing the reflections from this overlay entirely because I thought it might be visually confusing. Should I just remove them?

New Defender cab looks incredible! Thanks Ars and PapaShine.

Yie Ar Kung Fu 4K Vertical Overlay

Been sitting on this one a while, finally wrapped it up. The bezel was something I found online and recreated that had been used at an arcade, but I’m fairly sure this never had an official bezel or a dedicated cabinet, at least from the searches I’ve done.

I love the little details you’ve added To the defender overlay and the new marquee looks great! - it’s funny how far these overlays have come when you put these two side by side to compare! Great job.

I updated my stargate overlay with the ‘Newer’ Williams door just after I finished it, I’ll share it somewhere on here too (If anyone’s interested) but might tweak it a little to match this ones proportions and separate the monitor bezel for the shader so they look more like a pair! (If you already have one do let me know)

I never git to play Yie-Ar Kung-fu In the arcades, mostly played the spectrum and Amiga ports so that’s a welcome addition, might finally stop getting my ass kicked on that - thanks!

Thanks about the overlays! I’m happy to have found ways to continue to improve the quality of these things, like with the marquee lighting, and thanks to you, all these 3D renders like the coin doors. A lot of it comes from feedback from @dreamstate and the rest of the community, so I’m grateful for everyone’s contributions and suggestions!

I’d never played Yie-Ar Kung-fu and somehow never really heard of it back in the 80’s. I was surprised how many ports it had and how influential it was to the design of future fighting games. I tried playing it, but man is it hard.

I haven’t done a Stargate yet, so that would be cool if you can align the look to mine and save me the effort  Please post when you get it done!

Terra Force 4K Vertical Overlay

This overlay is another one that is thanks to the restoration work of RaspBear on the MameWorld forums. He restored the marquee and recreated the bezel here from reference photos and partial scans. He also restored the hint card here. He is still working on restoring a larger instruction card and when that is complete I’ll update this to include it.

Last Duel 4K Vertical Overlay

This one here is a request from @HyperspaceMadness. I love the title screen has “2012 Inter Planet War”. We were so optimistic in 1988.

I have to say @HyperspaceMadness… I’d never played The Last Duel until now, but it is one very cool game. I love that there is both a driving and flying mode and the ability to jump or phase out to avoid obstacles etc. Amazing, colorful graphics too. Very unique, thanks for the recommendation!

Dynamite Duke 4K Vertical Overlay

I don’t believe there was an official bezel offered for this game. I found a generic bezel with red borders that was being sold online as a “Dynamite Duke” bezel that had been used in an actual arcade and I based this off of that. That bezel had an instruction card attached, which I’ve recreated here. I did see the same instruction card on multiple arcade reference photos so I’m guessing the card was most likely packaged with the PCB by Fabtek. Coin door here is from the Williams Defender coin door by @papashine. I purchased the marquee off eBay and I’ve contributed the 600dpi scan to @MrDo’s site as well.

Sengoku 3 4K Vertical Overlay

The marquee here was another eBay purchase, I’ve scanned and provided it to @MrDo’s site as well. Mr. RetroLust has also incorporated it into his Neo Geo full dedicated marquee project and he did the lighting effects on the marquee for this overlay.

Rastan 4K Vertical Overlay

Best soundtrack ever! Love the music in this game. For this game I cleaned up the larger, translucent marquee with the full vertical height of the artwork. I shared that out on the MameWorld forums too. As usual, using a lot of little @PapaShine graphic elements here.

Here is a shot of the original cabinet:

ok, Rastan is definitely one of the best examples of this kind of game there is - everything about it was amazing to me at the time, and agree the soundtrack is awesome - played this a load on my spectrum too but never got far in the arcade so going to enjoy this one allot - thanks @ArsInvictus!

This is Awesome, thanks @ArsInvictus!

Lots of good memories playing this one at the arcade, although since you couldn’t just keep feeding in quarters to progress, I think I only saw the first level

For anyone who remembers the music fondly here’s a good remix!

Thanks for posting this @HyperspaceMadness! The remix is cool, just shows this music is timeless. It’s funny my 15 year old daughter heard the music for this game and starting jamming along to it too, soo good

same here - I’d literally never seen the second level of the game until I realized I could fix that in mame - if you jump into the dip switches, you can allow continues!.. which means the arcade owners were to blame for that, not the developers! feels less brutal now

nice remix - thanks for posting
