Thanks @HyperspaceMadness, that’s great news. And also thanks for your crazy incredible Mega Bezel shader!
I can’t wait to see the overlays and shader in action on my mini cab. I will share some pics/video of it once I have it working.

4K Armored Warriors Vertical Overlay
This game was one I have great memories of when it was released in the arcade. Sadly I was probably one of only a few people who fed it any quarters, as everyone was off playing fighting games in this era.
But, I wanted to do this one justice. So I found the only copy of the marquee I could locate online, which was a blurry, warped, crooked mess and did what I could to restore it. Replacing all the logo art with new materials and sharpening the rest of the image. I’ll post it to mameworld as it might be the best copy available until a better marquee scan appears. This game had a very limited run in the US, so I doubt many marquees remain in the wild unfortunately.
I also translated an original Japanese instruction card to english and restored it in the process, as well as reworked another, vertical card into the horizontal format to fit in the overlay.
Here is the final result, hope you enjoy!
Updated Progear Overlay
I replaced my custom Progear marquee and bezel to match the actual conversion marquee and stickers here so it’s more authentic to the original arcade experience. The only english language scans of the instruction stickers where very grainy and blurry, so I recreated those using materials from better scans from the japanese artwork. I’d done the first instruction card in the past, so just recreated the second card for this release.
Here’s the updated overlay:
4K Vertical Overlay for Dragon Breed
I reworked the custom instruction cards I’d created for the horizontal overlay for this game last year and used them here.
Captain Commando, Eco Fighter, X-Men vs Street Fighter Big Blue style overlays
Many thanks to Doc Mack for granting permission to use these photographs of actual arcade marquees on these overlays!
Thanks again to @Thoggo for providing the big blue template I used here.
Updated Gigawing
This version has both of the original instruction cards in it now as well as updated lighting and other elements.
This game is actually pretty cool. I’d seen it a couple of times and passed over it because i thought It was a two player fighting game.
Here is Caveman Ninja. I was fortunate to find an original marquee with the full uncropped image on ebay and purchased, scanned and cleaned it to make this overlay. I also did my own restore of the bezel. There was another version out there but I did a bit more work on it than they did.
There are both full bezel and large screen versions available in the dropbox:
Updated Sinistar overlays
There are two versions here. One with the flat coin door look and another with a control panel rendered in full 3D by @PapaShine. PapaShine pointed out some versions of this cabinet that had a unique and atmospheric marquee illumination that would shine light down on to the top of the bezel and control panel. I tried to replicate that work here. Another great example of a team effort in creating these overlays!
The control panel version of this is probably one of my most favorite overlays thus far and I hope you enjoy it as well:
Just an amazing collection you’re amassing for us here, Ars. Thanks so much.
Thanks! It’s a team effort @benlogan. Couldn’t be doing this volume and level of quality without the contributions of @papashine and @thoggo!
I can’t get enough of this Sinistar overlay running on my cab today, so atmospheric!! love it!
You nailed it @dreamstate
@papashine pointed this effect out to us the other day and I used that Sinistar shot you posted as the reference for the overlay.
We do plan on doing more of these Williams overlays over the coming days and will definitely be using that lighting effect, it’s really cool and atmospheric
This sounds like a cool project! I have considered modding Counter-cades but not replacing the entire upper part with a vertical screen. There’s an off-the-shelf model called the Vewlix that houses a 24" vertical screen, for those interested in a small vertical cabinet but feeling less interested in modding, definitely more expensive but has a few additional options:
@ArsInvictus this is so good, that I even would run the games just to see the overlays, no playing involved. Amazing stuff.
That’s a great compliment @Kondorito! I do that already myself, I’ll just leave the cab up and running showing some of the overlays as background artwork for my home We’ve got more great stuff coming soon!
Joust
Another with a new CP render and updated marquee and lighting. This one also replicates the downward facing lighting from the marquee that was used in a few Williams cabs.
This is another favorite of mine, very happy with how it came together and another great team effort.
Oh man, I didn’t think the coin door cabs could be beat, but these two may be your best yet. Absolutely beautiful!
lol @dreamstate, I guess I just hadn’t met the right control panel!
@papashine was really able to nail down the right perspective, texture and overall look with these 3D renders, and done this way I love them!
I like what you did there, dropping the speaker panel in favor of the coin door is a good alternative, I’ll play around with that approach myself.
