Guys… I got to play Donkey Kong II at California Extreme arcade convention this weekend. So beautiful! Would love a vertical arcade version of this one. Not even sure if the rom or graphical resource are available for this home brew game. It’s just great. No pressure, of course, fellas. Surprised I’d never seen it before

I feel like Retroarch should support popular features like HSM and Community Overlays more seamlessly. I think anyone who spends enough time in this forum knows that they are what make the platform popular. What would that look like? A GUI option that enables auto-download of overlays similar to how the artwork option works. The ability to use any shader with a bezel or glass. Would be nice!

HSM is awesome shader, I’m wonder is mame ever will have shader like this

Glad you like it :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:.

I’m personally unlikely to try to convert it for MAME. The big reason is because it is a really big shader which requires a fair bit of maintenance, so I would be wanting to avoid two copies of the same codebase to maintain especially before the development on it has really stopped changing much. It’s also possible that some features that the shader relies on might be missing counterparts in the other architecture. One of the big reasons I’ve been drawn to Retroarch is the flexibility of the shaders system.

To play arcade games in Retroarch I use the MAME and Final Burn Neo cores (Final Burn Neo supports runahead).

I’m curious, what are the things which would make you want to run MAME Standalone rather than Retroarch?

Well i like retroarch but mame its simpler and faster and its just well … mame, i can complie my own version add drivers or cut them

when my kid wants to play some games its just faster, ratroarch loading is much more pain in my opinion (maybe i have smg set wrong), but your shader man its shines, and if someday i will change to retroarch it will be 1st reason why. For vertical overlays settings sets each game manually pixel by pixel… well smg needs to be changed, or i need to learn more ;p

Ofcourse retroarch have many many core’s, much better shaders but thats another story. But those loading times… have to look on it someday (not hardware issue, configuration i think)

Aw shucks  , I’m not sure about the load time issue, I haven’t found it very long personally, but I’m glad you have something that’s working for you  , I’m not sure about the load time issue, I haven’t found it very long personally, but I’m glad you have something that’s working for you :, One of the things I think is really nice about MAME is how you can easily swap between different art/overlay for one game.

The overlays and setting the custom aspect ratio I’m totally with you adjusting the resolution pixel by pixel is no fun, that’s one reason I did the mega bezel so that you can easily place and scale the screen, also why I added the feature to automatically scale the screen to the hole in the overlay, I’m hoping it can be an easier solution for overlays even if somebody just wants something basic and doesn’t need/want reflection.
