Love this… gives it a bit more warmth with the extra lighting, than the current version I have now.

Would it be okay to add this version in on my next update? (Yes… I’m finally back to working on stuff after over two years absent).

Also… not sure if it was intentional… in the current LAY file, you have the top lamps also linked to the lock-on lamp ("lamp0), so the top flashes every time you lock on to someone, in addition to their expected use (when enemy locks on to you).

Finally got around to playing around with this one (Akka Arrh)… very cool!!

Want to make sure I can also add this one to my next site update?

This one is missing a lamp graphic for the missile lamp, though (to the left of “zoom”)… any chance you can create that graphic and send my way?

I’ve got a video of the actual game, and I can see that a couple things are off, including that missing lamp. Once I get it figured out, I’ll send you over updated LAY settings, so you can update this one.

Thanks!!

Hey @MrDo ! I was thinking exactly the same thing, it’s really hard to find a video of it working in order to study it but after playing around with it a bit I can see that the lamps are a little off though I did like the laps syncing with the lock-on and I’ve tweaked one here already, if you can send me the video, I’d happily make those changes and get that updated! glad you like it, and you are more than happy to do whatever you like with it! Thanks!

I think my two posts got confused… the video I was talking about was for Akka Arrh… but did find a link to an Afterburner cabinet:

In the LAY file you have now, you just need to remove the reference to the hazzard lamps for “lamp0” (keep the ones for lamps 1,2) and you are good to go.

UPDATED: AfterBurner II hazard lamp tweaks

thanks to @MrDo’s observations I’ve adjusted the lamp instuctions so the hazard lights only respond to when your f-14 gets locked onto by an enemy, and not when you lock-on them as well, this shows less illumination during gameplay but is 100% true to the the original.

@MrDo - yeah, I was looking on mobile and those two posts got confused when I read it back and replied  the change I’d made runs directly in line with the way it works on that video, thanks for the ref, also with your feedback re: Lay/lamp0 so I’ve updated the zip in the first post and a new link below - I also had the chance to play on one locally today which was disappointingly quiet and drowned out in the arcade, not as thumping as my vertical arcade with only one hazard light working! I love the original cabs, nothing can beat them but there’s something to be said for not having to maintain the original hardware  hopefully they’ll get it fixed up soon!

Here’s the link again with the lamps tweaked :

Even the curvature looks very authentic on this one. Horizon still looks pretty straight and HUD elements don’t look overly warped/bent.

thanks. I added two more today.

Hi all,

It’s been a while since I’ve contributed anything but I was inspired by the bombshell overlays @PapaShine dropped here in recent weeks and have some time over the holidays so I started working on finishing up a Snow Bros overlay I started working on years ago now.

The versions of this marquee that are available digitally are all chopped up and missing quite a bit of the artwork but I was able to buy an original marquee that was fairly complete and I spent time this evening restoring it. You can find it here:

I’ll work on assembling it into an overlay and post it here when it’s done.

Snow Bros Overlay

Sadly I don’t have retroarch or MAME set up currently on my machine (I’ve been gaming mostly on Mister FPGA’s of late). So I’ll share this out as a PNG for now and hopefully some generous soul can put together the mame and retroarch packaging and test it properly. I do miss this game (not supported by Mister yet) and will have to set everything up here so I can play it again.

So I’m going to put together a new vertical gaming setup here and I was thinking about the TV size. My old setup was 40" and I always felt it was really too small to recreate the full experience and the monitor area was just too small to feel playable for some games with the full artwork. I was thinking to go with 50" but I’m wondering if 55" would be even better? Has anyone experimented with different sizes?

I think OLED would be best from a gaming perspective, and to create a more CRT like experience, especially with HDR. But I’d still be concerned about burn-in if I leave a single game up for many hours. I’d often leave my old rig running a single game for days at a time and never had a problem with the LCD but I’m guessing that would NOT work for OLED. Any opinions on that, or other specific TV recommendations, would be welcome as well!

I’m also looking for front end recommendations. I know some folks here have been working on integrating the artwork here with different front ends but I don’t know the status on that. Another question is Windows vs. Linux. I was always annoyed by the frequent windows updates and would prefer something that I could count on booting up without waiting for some update to complete or breaking something. But I don’t know where that stands in regard to shader compatibility either. I loved how much power @HyperspaceMadness’s shader provides and how close I could get that to looking like an actual CRT, so ideally whatever I use would work with will that. Along the same lines, video card recommendations are welcome. I was thinking to get something small like a gaming NUC that I could easily squeeze into a svelte wallmount cabinet.

Sorry for all the questions, but I’m sure you guys have some expertise on this stuff

Now that most new Intel NUCs are using the new ARC GPU, this might be an option.

I haven’t yet had the disposable cash to do any testing. The only drawback is that, so far, the ARC seems to have lackluster Vulkan support.
