I haven’t played on the original LS-30’s in years, so I couldn’t really compare them myself. So it sounds like the rotation is pretty accurate in the feel and response?

I’ve been working for hours on getting two of these mounted to an original Ikari control panel. I have the HAPP mounting kit Glenn sells, but the holes are actually blocked by the box under the joystick. It seems like this was only meant for use in a wood control panel where you have screws coming from the top side of the joystick. I’ve been able to get one mounted using 3 of the 4 washers, but the other is just too blocked to get access. I also had to dremel down the mounting screws to about 1/3 their original height.

It should work though, eventually.

Yeah the LS-30’s had more tension and a shorter shaft. I’m playing with latest version of MAME using the settings from the setup video. The rotation is perfectly in sync with each click and feels right. The only thing missing is the pronged hex plastic key used to remove the original top and inner screw.

Mounting on metal is always a challenge. Sometimes you have to get creative.

Have any of you seen the trailer for the new indie fighting game KnockOff? It’s nostalgic like everything else in this forum.

It would be great if they got the actual licenses for the characters but then the name wouldn’t make sense anymore.

Huh  This looks fun for sure. Modding community could probably have a fun time getting mainstream character skins added.

Yeah I love how the name actually is completely honest about what it is lol.

Btw @NeoKarnage, what way stick/setting are you using with Ikari? The instruction manual says to use 8 way, but the original sticks were 12 way. I tried with 8 way but felt I had to move too far for each click. I switched it back to 12 and it seems easier to rotate and a little more natural to me. Have you compared?

I did get them mounted in the panel, now for the buttons and wiring

I’m using the 12 way. I was referring to the analog settings.

Positional Increment/Decrement Speed 0

Positional Sensitivity 100

From the video where it’s referred to as “Ikari Warrior”

At least your control panel isn’t cramped like mounting it in the box. Installing the base then trying to squeeze the wiring harness into the tight gap was a huge mistake. The guy in the video made it look so easy.

Yeah I have those settings correct. I’m gonna stick with the 12 way then

I agree on that sequence of steps for the install, why not plug the harness into the joystick first??? That was annoying.

Well, I found what might be a dealbreaker for these joysticks for use in a cab. There doesn’t seem to be a way to uniquely identify the USB device ID, so when windows reboots it will randomly reassign player 1 and 2. The rotation is actually still working for the assigned keystrokes, but the joystick and buttons are flipping randomly, so it’s actually unusable when that happens.

The configurator does have the ability to assign a number to each joystick, but within RetroArch I don’t see the number reflected.

I do have some Ultimarc rotary sticks I’d originally planned for use in the Ikari cabinet. So I might have to go with those and use an I-Pac instead. I was hoping the GRS sticks would be a more authentic and durable solution, but with the USB flipping problem it won’t work :frowning:

Maybe you can create stable ID’s in MAME then save the .cfg and copy it over to Retroarch.

https://docs.mamedev.org/advanced/devicemap.html

Are you using the current MAME Arcade core?

Have you tried changing the Retroarch .cfg to read only?

This has some info that may help.

That’s some good info, I actually use Pacto4000/2000 encoders for my 4 player cab and chewlix, as it enforces the USB sequence and I’ve never had this problem since using those boards.

BUT, I cleared all my core overrides and then remapped the inputs and it seems to be sticking now. I’ve rebooted 4 times and even unplugged and flipped the USB ports around and it seems to be keeping the right sequence in place. I’ll keep testing, but there may have been something going on with a core override or something else that threw things off.

That’s great. It would have been a shame if you couldn’t use the GRS sticks.

How do the Ultimarc sticks compare to the GRS?

I actually never set the Ultimarcs up because I saw the GRS sticks coming out and I’ve been working on building the cabinet. So I had both on hand and went with the GRS to start. The Ultimarcs seem to have an awkwardly long shaft for use on a metal control panel and don’t come with the tops (I ordered some on Etsy), though the tops I have from Etsy seem to match the original size more. The GRS are much larger than the originals. I can’t speak to the feel, etc since I haven’t really used them. I’ve been pretty happy with the feel of the GRS sticks from the little play testing I’ve been doing while setting up the games.

I have the GRS working well now and everything seems stable so I’ll just stick with them. I’m hoping I can get the cab all together in the next day or 2 and will share pics of the finished product.

I think this one looks best with an HDR display.

Asterix Overlay

I can only share the PNG at the moment, the computer I use to test with had it’s power supply die, so if someone would like to package this up and set it up for megabezel that would be cool.

Along with the marquee I posted earlier I also created a custom bezel I’ll share in case @Orionsangel would like to use it for his overlays (no idea if you have done this game Orion…).

Let me know if anything looks off since I’m just viewing this on a smaller screen.

That looks fantastic! Yes, I would like any original bezels you have. I haven’t done that game. It’s getting harder to find any original bezels these days. It feels like I did most of them. Thanks @ArsInvictus for all your hard work. You’re appreciated.

@NeoKarnage I finished up the Ikari Warriors cabinet (other than wiring the coin lights) with the GRS sticks and it came out great. The sticks are working really well and no problems at all after quite a lot of playing at this point.
