It would say shoot if it were translating verbs but they’re all nouns being referred to for example, “buck shot”, “Plasma Canon”.

“Lever” probably refers to the flight stick or the actual (imaginary) lever in the spacecraft which is used to control the direction of the air/spacecraft.

From that perspective the translations make perfect sense.

I actually spent a few seconds thinking about this when I saw the original marquee and was creating the stickers. From the standpoint of lever and shot that’s correct but the Lock On Laser is more ambiguous. One could say that the Lock On Laser is a kind of laser or it’s a verb in terms of executing a Lock On action using the Laser. I left it as is and figured this is just one of those things that will perplex and inspire debate amongst Raystorm arcade documentation historians for generations to come lol. I probably should have included the Laser text on my sticker too, I was just thinking to keep the stickers small, visually, and that text was really scrunched on the original and hard to read.

Batsugun 4k Vertical Overlay update

I went down a rabbit hole with this old overlay and reworked the marquee using better sources and more modern AI upscaling. I also put together a custom control panel overlay for Toaplan games that I’ll use for their other games that didn’t have original artwork.

Here is the old and new marquee for comparison:

Spent way too much time putting this thing together… custom marquee for an overlay I’ll be making for Truxton II. Not a lot of material to work with for this game, unfortunately, but it came together ok I think:

Akka Aarrh Bezel upscale and restore

I’m really excited about what I’ve been able to do with Gigapixel upscaling and was looking around to find some examples of other artwork that couldn’t really be restored very well with earlier upscaling algorithms. I dug up the bezel that @Thoggo and I worked on a couple years back (I think), which was based on a sort of medium resolution photograph. I started over with that using Gigapixel and I have to say I’m very impressed by the quality of what I was able to get. I started with that upscale but also spent a few hours on cleaning it up and adjusting the colors and levels, replacing the text with actual fonts, etc. I’m really impressed by how solid the outcome is, outside of getting an actual scan it’s really very nice.

In this case I couldn’t really swap out all the colors as it had a kind of watercolor, hand drawn art style. But I think this could be used for a decent quality print for this bezel and it wouldn’t look bad. Here it is in jpg at 25% of the resolution I rendered to:

@Orionsangel, not sure if you have done this game yet, but here you go

The crazy thing is that they apparently only made 3 cabinets of this game. For the history of the game check out:

Yeah one collector was at least willing to let someone take some video of it, and they also took the bezel out and used a tripod to take a few decent photos, otherwise we wouldn’t have this art at all.

Looks great Walter. Did you intentionally choose to use Data East sticks on an SNK game?

I went ahead and made some HSM Mega Bezel .params files for the overlays @walter.farmacia made. Thanks @ArsInvictus for letting me puth them in his GDrive.

I had to take the Guerrilla War screenshot with the “Che Guevara”. He was from Argentina like me!!!

I’ve made also Cabal, Moon Patrol, Chase HQ and Boothill for the “horizontals”. There are also in the @ArsInvictus drive. I’m not sure about Boothill because that game has a transparent overlay, so I had to tweak some other parameters I haven’t tweaked before. May be there is a better way to do it.

PS: Is there any vertical overlay for City Connection out there?

I don’t think City Connection has been done. It was released as “Cruisin” in the US and the marquee is available for it but would need to be cleaned up. There is a photo of the cabinet that shows a simple blue grid control panel that would be easy to recreate. So it could be done if you want to take it on, or I can work on it if you like too.

Thanks Ars. I’m not really a fan, but I know it’s a classic. I can’t draw two straight lines, so the only thing I can do is a nice setting for HSM…
