About the Tools & Scripts category

(Replace this first paragraph with a brief description of your new category. This guidance will appear in the category selection area, so try to keep it below 200 characters. Until you edit this description or create topics, this category won’t appear on the categories page.)

Use the following paragraphs for a longer description, or to establish category guidelines or rules:

  • Why should people use this category? What is it for?

  • How exactly is this different than the other categories we already have?

  • What should topics in this category generally contain?

  • Do we need this category? Can we merge with another category, or subcategory?

I’ve come to hate this project, but there are no viable alternatives. Even Recalbox and Lakka are simply not fully thought through.

Why does the documentation state that you can, for example, use

To list out the content of a db libretrodb_tool <db file> list

But where are you supposed to get libretrodb_tool from? Why isn’t it included with the portable RetroArch download or the installer, and why don’t any of the developers ever think to offer the tool for download (website or in RetroArch with the Content Downloader)?

Then you register here in the forum to ask about it… but you can’t even start a new thread.

One has to wonder if the developers behind Libretro/RetroArch ever actually think about what would be a sensible way to do things.

I’ll never understand why some users think this is an effective way to approach seeking support.

I won’t engage with it. If you want support, try again without the backhanded b.s.
