BennuGD for Android

Hi Square/Maister/Toad King,

do you think a core for games created with the language BennuGD (a fork of FENIX) could be possible in RA? Specifically, to play Streets of Rage Remake (made using the Bennu GD language). An interpreter to run this game would be awesome as it is one of my favourite homebrew games (I am an admin in the SorR community). To get the game running on Wii would be a dream come true for me.

Would like to see this some day just to be able to play SoR: Remake on portable devices. The Author behind BennuGD actually made a SoR port for android and tested it on his Nexus 5. Unfortunately, he won’t release the APK file to the public because of possible infringements involving SEGA. The problem is that SoRR is made using BennuGD. BennuGD is a 2D game programming language which has its own compiler and interpretator. In theory, if anyone ports the BennuGD interpreter to libretro, then every platform that is supported by libretro would get SoRR for free.

SplinterGU has announced a while ago that he’s working on the next version of BennuGD, and has created a forum post for discussing the features with the community. BennuGD 2 is going to make use of the hardware acceleration capabilities of the new SDL library, and will simplify significantly the modularization of the language. By using SDL 2, BennuGD will improve its performance on mobile devices and have a better support for the new platforms. He has also mentioned that he’s going to be exclusively dedicated to the new version of the language, therefore, he has stopped supporting the current version and there won’t be bug fixes or new features in the future. Meaning SORR could be ported more easily then is it?
