Cores that have a broken later version

In this thread i’d like to mention what cores are better to NOT update to their latest version.

So far i have found two: Virtual_Jaguar and PPSSPP.

Latest core of Virtual_Jaguar crashes in some games (like Rayman) that an older core i found (or the standalone emulator) doesn’t. I haven’t noticed any improvements over the old core either.

Latest core of PPSSPP give an error message when loading a lot of games. The games still work after you close it but it’s annoying nonetheless, especially for couch gaming. Again, i found an older version around here a few months ago and i’m still using that. Btw, this core haven’t been updated in a while so the “bad” version is online for very long.

I’m also not sure about the latest MAME core version. Last time i checked there was a problem with the fonts. There were some recent updates to it but i haven’t tested it.

If you know any other examples please inform, thanks.

Yeah, the problems with the latest MAME haven’t been fixed.

The default is 1, which seems to add black borders and cause missing pixels (look at the Credits text). Setting it to 0 fixes the missing pixels, but the OSD is still unreadable and the aspect isn’t right. I have it set to Core Provided (4:3) for both shots.

The last few museum cores have totally destroyed compatability with the castle Vania 64 games… So there’s that.

Graphics are just random flashing polygons.

I saw that the Virtual Jaguar core has been updated yesterday.

Though, i still have no idea what the improvements are supposed to be. It still seems broken to me compared to a much older version i have. For instance, Rayman still crashes but in the older version it works fine.

So currently on Android the Mupen64 core and the PCSX Rearmed core are not working. Though curiously you need the Mupen64 core for Glupen to work it seems.
