thank you cyber it’s duimon on reddit who posted the shader lotte compared to his meganan on crt… I just played 1 minute with crt guest… well the gamma colors etc are not as accurate as my custom preset which is a slot mask but it looks much better here on the screen.
I don’t understand why I see & or things like dollars in the mask… the eyes of alladin in zoom
did you use revision2??? nesguy well played in 5min and in 10 min compared to guest rev1 there is better… more s and dollars in the mask… I don’t know what changed in detail IN CRT SHADER, but much more versatile now I think…
more than to hold the scanline because the pants of alladin does not have the softness of the preset slot mask and that should be able to correspond. after level adjustments of gammas there is not as much adjustment as misc.slangp that I use below but that should be sufficient I believe. Not me, that post was buy a guy named “PizzaCake33”.
Anyway. I like the default Guest ADV in the Mega Bezel, using Lottes mask #4.
This shot uses a visible phosphor layer that reduces contrast in the well lit room, and has a realistic indoor reflection on the screen.
well very good rendering I must say even if I don’t play on such a curved screen… the mask4?? oki me I used the mask 7 I think in guest advanced revision 2.
Yep, mask 7 is the 3rd or 4th Lottes mask. I think we like the same mask.
I have never loaded the stand-alone version of Guest so I am not sure what tweaking @HyperspaceMadness has done to the parameter names and such. He does some pretty major surgery on CRT shaders to transplant them into the mega Bezel.
Thank you. It is all vector in Adobe Illustrator. I have a particular passion for vintage TVs. (My father was a TV repairman.)
I plan on doing some more vintage models after I finish with the graphics for the Mega Bezel. I may do a B&W TV sooner than that. (I just finished a series of monochrome monitors so a B&W TV is fairly mandatory. )
Could it be due to your particular video driver? Or is that how it supposed to be on all setups? @guest.r @Duimon
thank you for the precision… well I worked one month on a preset for a tv4k oled… the problem that nesguy made me notice is that I was using a slot mask instead of an aperture, slot mask without scanline… the third screen of alladin looks like my sony crt but is not the right mask because slot mask… so here I am to have a shader with the right mask without the visible scanline like my pictures posted above of my sony kvb crt in action.
Is this another one of your renderings? I love this! I would have to admit that I’m a big fan of the faux TV/monitor overlays but not so much the hybrid ones that use a split image of the console or computer being emulated.
I don’t know this has been corrected in my guest revision2 screen core i5 4690K 4400MHZ RTX 2070 NVIDIA TURING 24GB RAM WIN 10 UP TO DATE
Heh, I do some surgery but I try to keep the patient intact . All the guest parameters are the default, I don’t change them on purpose so that the guest venom you get is as default as possible, I think the only thing, I think I change from default is I set the interlace mode to 4 so that when the trigger resolution is reached we get an image without scanlines, but no interlace.
Mt friend, you are a gentle and caring surgeon indeed.
I have a question for @guest.r. No other CRT shader performs as well with non-integer as yours.
Would it be possible, using some kind of custom mask and other tricks you have up your sleeve, to create an LCD shader that performs just as well?
I feel attacked but honestly have no rebuttal ROFL.
I’m still staring at the clouds while scrolling back trying to get a ticket for that one. Lol
For what it’s worth, I actually thought I was responding to @Nesguy earlier because we were going back and forth about the Trinitron qualities, lol, so I didn’t even realize it was you trying to add some clarity and accuracy to the discussion. I’m not saying that @Nesguy deserves any less respect but my tone was due to me incorrectly thinking that he was insisting that all Trinitrons were flat. So again my sincerest apologies. I really did make a mistake.
As for me, I’m unfazed by a little debate now and again or perhaps a little more often than that. Lol I see @Nesguy as one who doesn’t mind a little back and forth to prove his point, share or teach someone something.
As for @Syh I don’t feel anyway about his/her (feel free to correct me) rhetoric. It’s cool. I looked for that. Lol
I must say, I’m learning a lot here about a subject that I’m really passionate about. I’m not as interested in the technical aspects as much as the end result. So for me, I don’t mind something that’s not as accurate or CRT perfect once it’s CRT like enough and does all the proper blending and maintains details so I don’t mind something that ends up looking even superior to a CRT in terms of the treatment to the images. I understand that others are focused on accuracy and trying to achieve as close to a 1:1 simulation as possible and it’s the pursuit of this that has us with all of these great tools with which to enjoy our favourite games!
I don’t even understand A QUARTER of what you all talk about in these CRT threads (masks, scanlines, etc) - it almost makes my head explode trying to grasp some of the minute details you all mention. But I love the discussions made pointing out differences in different screens and such, and the passion in which we try and replicate them years, even decades later.
I’m starting to get scared… I have a panasonic g20 s 1080P plasma a panasonic ez950 4k oled a crt vga diamondtron tube sony… and my sony kvb tv for retro games. and it’s been 10 years that I see and play with the shader… and i still don’t see the ideal shader that looks like my sony 15khz crt… it’s dying the crt, little by little, less and less choice… and i don’t have a replacement in quality for my retro games… so i hope to get there on oled… with shader it is possible i know… i have blacks and contrast that rivals my crt, just the right mask and settings… on oled in 4k. so if one day my crt dies i can still play my favorite games…
