DosBox - How to Enable Sound Blaster?

Hey everyone,

So now that I have DosBox up and running in RA, I wanted to play some Wolfenstein… I find that there’s no music and the sound effects are just plain awful.

When going into the sound options menu I see that the option for “AdLib/Sound Blaster” is greyed out and in not able to be selected.

How does one go about enabling this in the DosBox core?

Same thing here (sorry for bumping, but since no one replied), I can only use the PC speakers in Dosbox for Retroarch, Sound Blaster is greyed out.

Does soundblaster work in regular DosBox? I have never really setup the stand-alone for it.

Never tried it on standalone DosBox version, there may be some guide or hint somewhere that could enable it for this game in particular.

I can confirm it works in standalone. Are you having this issue with other DOS games as well or just Wolf3D?

I think I figured it out… either that or they updated the core?

I did a fresh install and when going through the settings found: Settings>Audio>Midi… and then I set it to Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth instead of just “off”

It’s a setting I’d never seen/touched before, so I thought maybe that would fix it - and sure enough I now have Soundblaster in Wolfenstein 3D

The reason I’m not 100% on this being the fix is I DID run through core updater on that fresh install, so it’s possible it was just fixed in DOSBox and I didn’t do anything significant lol

I turned that midi setting off now to check, but nope that wasn’t it… probably should have thought to try that before declaring I found a fix…

But still, something changed and now it’s working lol
