Thanks! I was just admiring how real the glass over the function key strip/guide looks and found a slight imperfection that is now fixed.
Repo is updated… again.

The first thing I noticed was the vents on the Master. It looks like there could be a fan in there.
I’m fairly certain it is a speaker, which is what I put there.
Good source images for these vintage systems are really hard to find, at least where it counts.
Yep, it’s a speaker.
Now that I know exactly what the speaker looks like I may tweak it a bit.
OK I did some work on the speaker. (Not that anyone will ever look that close. )
The work made me wonder about the Micro and it turns out that the holes in the function guide cover were dual purpose speaker holes/PSU vents. And I had them designed all sorts of wrong.
I did some work on it.
It is much improved.
I haven’t yet updated the Potato graphics. I will get to it when I have a bit more time.
These BBC changes have been a good days work. They are worth it.
Guess I’m gonna have to dive into more of the non-arcade side of MAME so I can see some of these better. Software list stuff always gave me headaches before.
Same here but I have picked up a few tricks over the months, and I have the knowledgeable Batocera devs to talk things over with if I get stuck. Together we can usually figure out how to get stuff to work inside plain old RA.
The BBC Master floppies are pretty straight forward standard Software list method, with no need for any autoboot commands or special *.opt settings.
The Micro is far more tedious to set up.
Hi Duimon, checking out your amazing repository, when you have a lot of free time and want, the ZX Spectrum+ keyboard would be great on your to do list:
It is a cool and fun looking keyboard, does the system actually add anything to the experience, other than that?
The +2 and +3 add 128k disk and tape support. What does the Spectrum+ add?
To be clear, I am not against the idea, I am just wondering. It would be a lot of work. (The keys, not the chassis, since I could reuse a lot of my +2 source.)
Looking at the World of Spectrum site, there are some tapes that run on the ZX Spectrum 16k, some that run on the 48k, and some that run on the 48k/128k.
So it appears the graphic is needed.
I will add it to the list. Thanks for the request!
I remember this model.(YES, I’m old enough for that ) The spectrum+ was a variant of the 48K with a more professional keyboard, reset button and a little more ventilation.
In fact, it was sold in stores as an upgrade. You gave your Spectrum “rubber keys” and an additional amount of money and you received this spectrum+.
For reasons of nostalgia and feelings, I think the spectrum rubber keys existing are better bezel for 48K tape games.
Yeah it looks like my existing graphic is the 48k already. Now I am torn.
Do I do the new graphic or do I reuse the old source and make a 16k alternate.
The first Spectrum 16K and 48K were identical externally.
You can rename the old source as 16/48K, With this and the +2A, +3 you have all the significant models.
You can also do the new graphic, if you want, as a 48K alternate, but don’t worry too much about it, when you have a lot of free time to do this. I remember a LOT of minor, regional variants and clones (Spectrum+, Inves+, 128+, Timex Sinclair… etc, etc), all were minor variants historically.
Right, but my current graphic has the greenish rubber keys. (The 16/48k) The shots I am seeing show gray keys for the 16k.
Sure… but that is never true. I “make” time for this project.
This leads me to the conclusion that after I push the +2a and +3 to the repo I will call it done. Having a never ending project is cool but I don’t need to force it to be one.
BBC Micro and Master Potato have been updated and the ZX Spectrum +2a and +3 are in the repo.
Thanks!
The new RCA TV doesn’t seem to work, in both +2A and +3 bezels. Can you check that?
Thanks for the amazing work! Just an issue on Mac OS with the Metal backend (which seems to be the only one available in the driver menu incidentally):
[ERROR] [Metal]: unable to compile fragment shader: Compilation failed:
program_source:1587:277: fatal error: bracket nesting level exceeded maximum of 256
program_source:1587:277: note: use -fbracket-depth=N to increase maximum nesting level
(I’m removing some unused variable warnings)
Has this been flagged yet and would you prefer an issue in the github repo?
This should probably be directed @HyperspaceMadness but I am not sure it is specifically a shader issue. It looks a lot like the exceeded maximum path error you get if you don’t use a current version of RA.
In any case, the forum is a good place to post the issue.
It is up now.
There are a lot of available models to choose from in the Fuse core.
While the existing 16/48k graphic, along with my new +2 and +3 128k, do complete the required systems…
…I did the +2 even though the +3 supported tapes.
For the same reason I am planning on doing an original 16k alternate.
@Rai I will probably not do the Spectrum+. It would open the door to a slew of potential clones and I just don’t think it is worth the time.
Given it’s aesthetic similarities to the QL (And the +2 & +3) I may change my mind somewhere down the road.
