Duimon - HSM Mega Bezel Graphics and Presets - Feedback and Updates

My main idea is to have a gamer friendly background in those images, with the game console sitting at the side and random games at the other, a consumer crt (or handheld) that represents that age of time when that game console was at his peak, and of course the wonderful HSM reflection shader, i know i didn’t achieved all i wanted to reflect but here’s my question, do you think its a good and prectical idea?

Welcome! Nice to have you here.

Thank you, very much. This is not, nor will it ever be, a contest.

I like each and every one of them. I particularly like the little elements from the console showing up on the frames.

One of the strengths of my work is that it is vector, it can also be a weakness. I can never put posters or decorations or detailed nick-nacks etc. because they are impossible in vector.

Please, continue your work and find a way to distribute them, the community can always use more graphics.

If I may make a suggestion, play around with the shader a bit, get used to the method of adding graphics. If you are brave, and have the time, try the newest build. (If @HyperspaceMadness has updated his GitHub) There are a lot of new features that give us artist many new tools.

And feel free to keep posting stuff here. We love that kind of thing!

Just updated it. :stuck_out_tongue:

But if you do want to use the alpha version you need to get the last nightly build, not sure how to set this up myself yet, as I just have just been building locally. It has some new preset handling that is necessary to load the presets.

Hey everyone!

Amstrad CPC 464! (As promised.)

I took the usual liberties from reality for balance. I like it a lot!

Quick question @Duimon : all your presets are based on HSM_Bezel_Guest-Dr-venom, right ?

Correct. When the new version of Retroarch is released, all my presets will be simple presets, and only the reference line will have to be changed to change the base reference shader. Any settings that aren’t shared with the new base will just be ignored. (Like cropping in Royale.)

Since I’m only using a couple simple parameter changes it will be dirt simple to do presets for all the base shaders. So at that time I will release multiple sets.

The handhelds will, of course, always use the LCD preset as they do now.

Some few shaders will use the new features for optional scaling, we will have to wait and see how they translate. (It’ll be fun!)

I’m not 100% sure if all the base presets will share all the new features, or just DrVenom. It is considered to be the primary base. (Maybe @HyperspaceMadness can verify the plan.)

Yup all the full presets with the various crt shaders will have all the new features.

As @duimon says with the new “Simple Presets” you will be able to take any of the presets and edit the preset file swap out the path to the #reference preset to a path to one of the other base presets to use a different crt shader.

The Samsung TV, (TV4) and both CPC versions are in the repo, including hybrids, overlays, and presets!

I made a small OCD pass on the CPC464 but most of the changes are hidden by the bezel at default size. (The very definition of OCD, to make changes that may never even be seen )

Duimon i was watching all your awesome work in this two images you made, what do you think if in the vertical 4K overlay you add the same tilt you have on the arcade one, im imaging it and i think it would look awesome, what do you think?

I personally think it’s a great idea. If you read my whole thread, (It’s a lot, I know.) you will see that I tried that while I was developing my 4K Vertical style. It did not go well.

I think tilt is a rather subjective option. Whenever I have tried it in a graphic, it gets very mixed reviews.

Thanks for the CPC !

Hi Duimon, i dont know if you are taking requests but i’ll try, im planning to do all my console collections with the HSM reflection shader and the awesome graphics you have done. Seeing almost your entire thread i found one image that you made that striked me the most, i just added the night bezel of one of the super nes overlays you made, do you think you can make a new one similar to the image? Thanks a lot for your time and effort.

You’ve already done the work.

If you look in my “RA-Overlay-Source” repo, there is a “retroarch_template.psd” in it are two layers “Colored Bezel” and “Dark Bezel”. the colored bezel has two color adjustment layers that can be changed to any two matching colors. Just save a PNG of any color you want. (Within reason. Colors with a brightness of more than 50% don’t work very well.) The rest is done by editing the slangp and adjusting the parameters, as you have done.

If you want the exact color of any given RA overlay I have done, the source for each is in the same folder. You can just hide the background layers and save a PNG.

(Doing this you will also get the frame drop shadow and the bezel inner shadow.)

That’s why I include the source.

BTW. I think it’s a great idea. I did something similar once just for fun, also using a raindrop on glass Top Layer Image.

Is it possible that you release a console set with that concept? I’m asking that because my time is very limited atm :relaxed:. Fingers crossed .

It’s possible. I think a glass set of presets would be cool. I would probably wait at least until the new version of the shader is out so I wouldn’t have to do it twice.

Also, @HyperspaceMadness may have a couple glass surprises coming in the next few months so…

(No promises, just some fun talk behind the scenes.)

BTW. Getting the glass stuff and the reflection on the bezel at the same time is impossible. The glass is the reflection. Essentially, the bezel is as wide as the screen.

Hey everyone!!!

Sneak peak at the DMG Gameboy shader with the graphic.

Looks awesome!

(Also using the updated version of the graphic.)

How about instead of a reflection, you change it to a shadow under the bezel above the screen?

I don’t think the GB had a reflective bezel

Nope, it did not. You can hide it using the parameters if it bugs you.

I like it. I am using a thin reflective bezel on all my handheld presets. These are made for the “Mega Bezel Reflection Shader” after all.

I do have RA overlays for all my graphics in a separate repo, they have an inner shadow at the edge of the screen. (And of course, no reflection.)

Now I’m in love. Thank you for the work.

@Digitech

I found these two old screen shots lying around.

They are made using the glass preset, so of course, the glass has reflections.
