Duimon - HSM Mega Bezel Graphics and Presets - Feedback and Updates

Exactly right. A lot of things will change soon. Things like backgrounds being separate from the console, a phosphor layer in vintage TVs, HSV color adjustment on some consoles and/or arcades, etc. Along with this I will add night presets and presets for all the base presets.

The world will never be the same.

Oh I see! Yes, the preset referencing works great! Anytime you make a change, all I have to do is pull the changes in and my presets continue to work.

I was trying the bezel shaders in the released RetroArch and could only get the very basic presets working (level 5) until I found that special build in your repo, and thought anyone using the shaders would have to be using that build.

That is odd. The latest release version of the shader (from the shader thread not GitHub) should work in the stable version of retroarch.

I think you must have been using a shader version from GitHub.

Yes I think this is the case, he’s using  #reference “shaders_slang/bezel/MBZ__0__EASYMODE.slangp”

Which is the new naming.

The way things are currently working is that the released version of the shader package (From the link in the start of the HSM Mega Bezel thread ) works with Retroarch V1.9.0. And the Github version, I’ll call this the Mega Bezel Alpha version requires the new features of the not yet released version of Retroarch, which you can get through the nightlies or the version of Retroarch included in my Github repo.

My current roadmap starts with some more obscure systems.

Reading your post it seems like the community would benefit more from moving the obscure stuff down the list and moving these higher up.

That is the new plan. Thanks for the input.

Gotcha, yeah I was pulling the development shaders from the repo, so that makes sense that they only worked with the custom RetroArch build. I hope the team includes the changes soon because this bezel system is great!

Sorry for hijacking your thread a bit Duimon. :slightly_smiling_face:

Do you have a list of the systems kept somewhere? Maybe there’s a way to allow people to vote on them? That way you could use it as a reference for priority, if you want. Of course, you’re the artist, so you should also completely ignore that and do what you want. haha

Actually, if you combine your list with my roadmap, its a pretty complete list. As I have said before the Amiga stuff is at the very bottom, although since consoles are what I started with I will probably do the CD32 first, among the Amigas, and an Amiga 4000 tower.

I also want to do the Mega Duck and VTech V.Smile from the MAME software lists.

The Nintendo Virtual Boy, both an anaglyph and flat version, are in there somewhere.

It’s pretty exciting to see exactly how short the list is.

edit: I also want to combine some sort of generic cabinet graphic with my “The bezel project” scripts. Probably swapping HSV generation from the bezel to the cabinet.

Hey Dumion thank you for these amazing overlays. i would have several requests to submit if you don’t mind. Would you be able to see for an overlay for the Neo Geo Cd as well as for the game gear please? something else (really secondary) the super nintendo us europe and super famicom have the power off button can you see to put it on please? in any case, thanks to your work together with hyperspace madness, my set up finally reaches the level of quality that I desire. thanks again

Oops! I must have missed those. I have bad habit of that. The power buttons are always off in image sources but I try to remember to turn them on. I’ll take care of that and move the Neo Geo CD to the top of the list.

I generally like to encourage a single request at a time, rest assured, the Game Gear is on the list.

t’s your fault you should blame yourself! content of such quality! no more fun I thank you and I will take your request into account! anyway thank you again!

Lol! No worries my friend. This is a place for requests.:grinning: I have a tradition of moving them to the top of the list. I also love doing handhelds, they fit on the screen so are more interesting. (Although they tend to take a bit longer to create.)

OK everyone, I have updated the repos.

Fairchild ChannelF, Elektronika BK-10, Palm, PSone, and the Super Gameboy versions of both the Super Famicom and SNES are all up, along with RA overlays and hybrids. (No hybrids of the PSone or Palm.)

I also updated all instances of the Super Famicom graphic with the power switch in the on position. (Standard, Alt, Plain, SGB, RA overlays, hybrid etc.)

Of course, the source is also updated.

There are presets for all but the Palm, which uses advanced alpha shader features. There is a Palm overlay version if someone wants to give it a spin.

I just now realized I forgot the PICO-8 and 3DO graphics. I will upload them ASAP.

Did you already show this to Lexaloffle?

I’m sure they would feel massively honoured to actually have a living concept for their little “fantasy” project.

I posted on the Discord. Most were unaware that the core was actually functional, the response was less than enthusiastic. :upside_down_face:

I posted a couple shots of my Palm graphic on the emulator Discord and the developer actually pinned my post to the help thread. I consider it a great compliment.

Congratulations…

Speaking of which, I have a new idea for you to keep you busy (if you want, nothing beyond a suggestion, you’re your own boss):

Not sure if anyone’s attempted these yet (I checked, couldn’t find them), but the matter of fact is that images of these beauties are hard to come by.

It’s like having a hybrid arcade machine inside a store, it’s a unique kind of experience.

Interesting. Could be a new concept for a 4K vertical setup.

I especially like the look and layout of the N64 one! The balance is just about perfect for 4K Vertical.

@HyperspaceMadness

What do you think director? Worth an attempt?

GJ my friend Thanks a lot!

Yeah could be interesting

That Super Nintendo neon thing and the PlayStation2 title is pretty sweet

Hmmm I like these too, could be an interesting idea.

Hey!!

The PICO-8 and 3DO are in the repo, including RA Overlays, Hybrid (3DO), and Presets. I also added a Palm preset that does not use any advanced shader features.

Also, a new WIP…

@RetroFanZ Neo-Geo CD! :grin:

I took my usual liberties with object/logo placement.

Of the three different models, I chose the CDZ because of visual interest and the fact that most existing overlays are of other models. I am also a little frustrated/bored with doing graphics that fall into the lower 15% of the grey-scale palette. :upside_down_face:

There are a couple of things that may not survive an OCD pass, but it is pretty close. :innocent:

One thing… while this system has a power LED, it is hidden by the bezel. (So I didn’t create it.) I am open to providing one that is on the bezel if there is interest, but it will need advanced shader features so won’t be available until the new alpha version is released

Full disclosure. I was not able to get a Neo-Geo CD ROM running in any core so I used a standard Neo-Geo ROM for the shot. If anyone has successfully managed it maybe you could give me a tip or two.
