Yes please!
I think I would like to make at least an OCD pass on it, if not redo it from scratch. It was done really early in this project.
I think it would benefit from what I have learned since then.
As far as generics go, don’t give up on them quite yet. In the least I would create a Photoshop template that would automatically create reflections and things, so that people could customize them easily.
At most, well… a guy has to keep some things a surprise.
I really like the feel of the tilted one
So it seems that in MAME 2003-Plus which I had been using it doesn’t auto-rotate vertical games and you end up with a squashed horizontal output. MAME works fine though so it must be something they changed
MAME - As expected
MAME 2003-Plus
Yep. 2016 works as well if you have the core. I don’t think it is in the build bot yet.
For Mame 2003-Plus try out this:
Thank you all for the replies to my dual monitor question.
I’ve been playing with things and ended up with this…
I created a second instance of Retroarch and called it Retroarch_Vert. Set that second instance to start on monitor 2 by default. Set the aspect ratio to 9:16. Loaded up the FB Neo Vertical preset from @HyperspaceMadness variations folder…and then, messed with a ton of parameters until I got what you see the 1941 screen.
After that l, I decided to run my regular Retroarch on the other screen for the laugh and here we are…dual arcading ha
Definitely need to put more time into figuring it out but thought you might enjoy seeing this weirdness!
Ok, so that doesn’t seem to work for me. If I do that with TATE = OFF I get the squashed horizontal mode and none of the shader options fix it.
If I set TATE = ON I get the sideways image for vertical games and then the shader paramters rotate it correctly.
Although that then breaks the horizontal games…
The only way around that I believe is to have the horizontal and vertical games in separate folders, switch TATE = ON and then use content directory presets on the shader parameters.
… or I can start using current MAME core lol
I did and OCD pass on the tilted MAME Cabinet graphic and added it to the repo.
I tweaked the lighting, did some surgery on the joysticks and buttons, rounded the t-molding and narrowed it a bit. (I tried to make rounded t-molding when I first designed this and failed.)
The controls are the Decal Layer and can be hidden.
There is also a Vertical version of the graphic built-in to the preset.
Using a tilted screen was something I always wanted to do with a graphic, even before I started this project. (It is possible with BGFX in stand-alone MAME.)
I hope you all enjoy it. I think it is pretty immersive with the dark lighting.
That looks fantastic! Nice job
Thank you. I may narrow the cabinet a bit, and push the speakers up just a hair for the Vertical. (To give the game screen more room) But this would require a different preset, so wouldn’t be automatic.
Wow! This turned out super nice! I like that there is an option to use tilt too!
Hello Sir, I have a request for you, which I’m not expecting you’ll want to fulfill but I’m going to put it out there.
I just showed this to my wife and asked which setup she liked better…
She said that she “really likes the one on the landscape screen but it’d be cool if you had a version of that you could put on the portrait screen” and then she said I should ask “the clever guys online about doing that” and here we are!
So, any chance you want to apply you skills to some generic, portrait screen friendly, graphics for the arcade games?
I have a set of 4K vertical graphic but I have been wanting to overhaul the template since I did it a long time ago.
I have plans for doing a full cabinet of sorts for the arcade stuff but it will be quite an undertaking. I want it to measure up to the 3D rendered stuff the other groups are working with.
For a rapid solution maybe you could convince them to do something. I have thought about asking @Briball for access thier source instead of doing vector, but really want to keep the scale-ability that vector provides.
That being said, I think I would like to do a 4K vertical version of the MAME graphic.
I’ll have a look at your historical work…guess that was before my time and I haven’t found my way there yet!
I hear ya, the folks working on the 4K verticals are doing amazing work over there…my monitor is not doing it justice at all, not big, bright or high res enough. It’s a high bar to stack yourself against for sure.
Keep in mind though, your work is what popped off the screen to my wife’s eyes, when they were both sitting side by side on my fairly average monitors. It looks amazing and your style is probably a better fit for my setup (and plenty of others). The 4K crew are targeting the vertical cabs which is a whole different ball game. Guess what I’m saying is, absolutely challenge yourself and do whatever you feel like doing, however, there is a lot to be said for your signature style!
I’m excited to see what you come up with, whenever that may be and really appreciate you taking it into consideration
I wanted to be able to rotate my LG 65" OLED but unfortunately the set is not balanced so it killed my dream of Vertical OLED Raiden DX.
Ah shucks…
I have modified the cabinet preset, but I have two problems, the first is that the screen tilt effect makes the emulation go very slow and I have to deactivate that effect, the second is that the screen size for me is too small So I suppose that in the end I will use the other preset and modify it too, or that or I make the screen bigger in the cabinet and eat the speakers
I am toying around combining elements of my two MAME graphics.
I made the holes in the perforated metal a bit smaller and added a frame to the bezel, (Because it made sense.)
Since these are hybrid templates, (The vector components are exported separately and combined in Photoshop.) it is a lot easier to make color and text changes.
This allows me to easily do this.
What do you think?
