Geolith Core - Audio Clipping with Metal Slug X

Hi, i played some weeks with the geolith neogeo core. Its a great core i think. I really love it!

But i stumbled across a small issue with one of the metal slug games (namely Metal Slug X). On some situations (when the action geat really busy) there is some notible scratching/clipping on explosions and such. It seem only this game is affected since all other games i tried ran just fine. I tried several performance settings all with the same result (frame delay on/off, hard sync on/off, swapchain 2,3…). With Mame and FBNeo the Game sounds fine.

I Use Lakka 5.0 with an Intel i7700 and integrated graphics. Audio over HDMI with alsa driver

Just a guess: because of audio/video synchronization in RetroArch, it’s common for crackling to appear if the host hardware cannot maintain fullspeed required by the core. Your framerate might be dropping to a value like 55fps (just an example), which you wouldn’t notice by eye, but it’s enough to throw off the audio.

I tested Geolith for quite some time and haven’t found that issue. But the core is more demanding, so getting a better hardware could be a requirement. If the dev posts here, he could certainly explain it further.

Thank you for your guess. But i am not 100% sure if it is the weak hardware bacause MS1,2,3,4,5 run fine. also all other games i tried (partly much newer Games) had no problem. Only on Metal Slug X i get the audio issues. Also i changed between performance settings with no notible change on that issue. i would assume changing that stuff would change bevavior of the issue when framerate is lower than 100%, or not ?

Don’t expect core issues to be looked into if you don’t report them on the core’s github repository. Very few emudevs look at this forum.

Seems fixed. Can i use buildbot for getting the new core Update? https://github.com/libretro/geolith-libretro/issues/15

I see the fix was committed 11 hours ago, i suppose it should be available from the buildbot by now ?

It’s kinda surprising that the core wasn’t handling audio saturation and only 1 game seemed affected by this.

Maybe other games were affected but not as obvisiously?! I am glad the dev looked after it.

i just tried it out and indead, this issue is gone! Thank you for pointing me towards github!!!
