How can I make Overlays with animated button presses?

I think it’s faster to make a proper topic for it instead of waiting for an answer in a seemingly dead thread.

Hi there! New on the forums and registered exclusively for the question on topic.

Not so long ago, I installed RetroArch to my Android Phone and discovered that some Overlays reacts to my physical controller’s buttons! That’s nice and all… but I’d like to make some myself.

The problem is that I can’t find a proper tool to achieve what I need. I did found though, this site: https://valent-in.github.io/retropad-editor/ Played around with it for a bit, but it’s hard to use and I didn’t found a way to export a reliable .cfg file for a GBA Test Overlay… in other words, it didn’t worked. I don’t rule out being entirely my fault though…

But that’s why I’m here… Does someone here know of a Windows/PC tool to achieve what I want? That is, to make Overlays with Animated Button Presses.

The animation isn’t “true” animation, but rather it’s just a trick of the on-press alpha function whereby you make a background image with pressed images and then you put the unpressed button images on top. Then, when someone presses a button, the unpressed button image goes transparent, which reveals the pressed button image below.
