Input issues with mednafen_psx

Hello, I’ve got issues with this core. From the games I tested (maybe more): Castlevania - Symphony of the Night (USA) Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 (USA) Resident Evil 2 (Spain) (Disc 1) (this one the B button also triggers a down command)

Pressing button A (normally jump) also triggers another command and shifts to one side, so games are unplayable. I bought a new 360pad yesterday so it’s not a pad issue. I share my cfg just in case. pastebin.

mednafen? or beetle? I too have problems with mednafen, mostly analogs not working

beetle? Analog “works” if you configured as I did. What problems did you see?

Beetle is the new mednafen core, it’s on the beetle-psx-libretro repo. The old for is not being mantained and it was working perfectly but it was in need for a rebase.

The analogs… don’t work at all on the new one for me

There are builds for beetle? Anyways, it looks like than beyond not fixing these issues, they made it worse…

There are no input issues on THPS2 on the latest mednafen core. The repo doesn’t exist anymore so there can’t be any newer builds. I have both.

then beetle is already outdated before it was born : / I don’t know why you talk about it. We need fixes for the next core.

There is the demanding attitude again…

No it’s not outdated, it’s just untested. Only a few of us build and test stuff. And there is already an open issue about this: https://github.com/libretro/beetle-psx- … o/issues/2 THPS2 in the last ever mednafen_psx_libretro is working perfect. I´m trying it right now. if you´re running on windows x64 I can provide both builds.

BTW that thing you mentioned on the other thread is implemented now https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/i … t-48673276

Where is the usefulness of complaining of things that are not developed anymore? Let’s move forward, if it’s mednafen_psx the one with bugs and active developed, that’s the one we should report issues for.

Currently I’m using the build from last stable release, because many games (resident evil 2, and 3, alundra, umjammer lamy) weren’t working with development build. If you want send me whatever is newest and working, so I can report if I find issues, I’m Win7x64.

Glad to know the modifier key was fixed, it was/is such a pain. I actually would had liked more configurable power for combos. I don’t want now modifier being required for everything, lik “modifier+F1” to load RGUI, I want F1 to load RGUI and “modifier+F1” to do something else, that makes more sense IMO.

Mednafen is not available anymore as I said:

Beetle is the currently active mednafen-psx port Here, links for both cores:

Beetle is the newer one, has savestates and lots of mednafen’s frontend cruft removed but it has the input issues I mentioned. Mednafen is the last version I built before it was replaced with beetle

The modifier stuff is more relevant for gamepad users, that’s why I opened the issue and I got what I asked for.

Thank you. Neither of them load the games I mentioned, so I stay with stable release. Bug was mentioned and ignored though.

You should post the debug information on why the games don’t work then, fire RetroArch with --verbose --menu and then paste the output somewhere.

Mednafen is really picky on the BIOS files it uses. Most issues are related to that or the cue sheet being wrong.

Don’t know how to do that, are you telling me you can run the games?

Edited my previous post with that info. And no, I don’t have those

retroarch.exe --verbose --menu "Alundra (Spain).cue" -f -c "E:\HyperSpin\Emulators\Super Nintendo Entertainment System\RetroArch-Win64-2014-06-05\configs\Sony PlayStation.cfg" -L "E:\HyperSpin\Emulators\Super Nintendo Entertainment System\RetroArch-Win64-2014-06-05\cores\mednafen_psx_libretro.dll"

ERROR: --menu was used but content file was passed as well.

Stable release works, so rather than wrong CUE or having wrong BIOS, is core requiring other/new BIOS.

that error is because you’re using --menu and content at the same time, don’t use --menu or use RGUI to load the content and paste the full log

How do I output log?

You don’t, you just run at the console, then copy / paste or I guess you can do >log.txt or whatever but I only copy/paste
