Hey Guys,
I created an iPhone 5 (iPod Touch, iPhone 4/4s, iPhone 5s) friendly touchscreen N64 overlay that I wanted to share and contribute to the Retroarch for iOS community! Just unzip the attached file and place it in the overlays folder inside Retroarch.app and select “N64 Custom” via retroarch’s setup GUI. Sorry for no screenshots but it will be a pleasant surprise for those who download. Below is a detailed run down of my changes:
-
I moved the Z button, the L button, and the R button to the right side of the screen just above the C buttons so they are easier to reach and press.
-
Modified the standard n64.cfg “look” to a dark icon setup.
-
Changed the analog stick to a black circular icon and also modified the sensitivity of the joystick so Golden Eye plays better in terms of head turning and shooting. Shooting is much easier now.
-
My personal favorite change! I modified the D-pad to act exactly like the analog stick. Games like WWF No Mercy requires the use of the D-pad (cross)…so now games that use the D-pad will now have an analog feel to it. Note: when switching between analog and digital during game play, you will know if you are on digital if the Z turns to an L and vice-versa.
If you have an iPhone 4, 5, or 5s or iPod touch (have not tested on iPad), you will definitively feel a difference in terms of on screen user friendliness. If you like my overlay but want something changed (i.e d-pad back to stock) feel free to post. Thanks guys.
