(MAME_Current) Taito G-NET Games on .chd (Chaos Heat)

Hi !

I’m struggling to run a specific game on the current mame core. I know about romsets, specific MAME versions, bios etc.

Years ago, I made a selection of games I configured using the reference set MAME 0.174 - which used to be MAME2016 on retroarch.

All has been working flawlessly since then, but of course, some games were updated over the years, running much better than they used to.

That is the case for Chaos Heat as you can see here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QJMVRLlfzs

On my mame2016 / 0.174 core setup, the game works super fine, but the audio is wrong. The game is recognized and starts fine on this version, I configured the directories and named the files as it should, all good.

I recently tried to “update” this specific game using a recent romset, updating all the previous files I had in my installation, using an updated bios since apparently, it changed name over the years…

But no way, the game just doesn’t load. I tried every possible solution, even previous versions of the core and different romsets, nothing.

Can anyone confirm if the game runs similar to the video above on their installation ? What version of the core are you using / what romset ? Am I missing something ?

My folder structure is this one and includes these files (this structure works perfectly on 0.174): …ROMS\coh3002t.zip …ROMS\chaoshea.zip …ROMS\chaoshea\chaosheat.chd

Thank you for any feedback provided !

very odd. On normal MAME game runs fine without the chaosheat.zip file in the ROM folder present. I only get the message which flash loader to choose. However on Retroarch MAME it is not possible to load the chd file as it can not load the MAME cores. I tried adding the chaosheat.zip file to the ROM folder, however then MAME Retroarch would crash on the disc load menu and the indicator would stay empty instead of turning blue.

chaoshea.zip only contains something if you decided to use romsets in full non-merged format (in which case it’ll contain the bios), it’ll be empty and totally optional if you are using non-merged or split format.

I’ll try to launch that game later.

Okay, issue solved.

The problem was sitting right in front of the screen. It’s been so long since I built my arcade roms playlist, I kinda forgot how picky MAME was most of the time.

I usually manually add new games to my playlist directly by editing the playlist files, it’s no problem for almost any emulator, but MAME is a different beast, of course.

So, I only had to manually scan the new files :

Import Content > Manual Import > specify the folder / core AND select a up-to-date DAT file.

Here’s the DAT file I used :

https://github.com/pleasuredome/pleasuredome/raw/gh-pages/mame/MAME%200.273%20ROMs%20(non-merged).zip

Just to be clear, all the files for the game are the ones supposed to work with Mame 0.273, according to arcadeitalia (useful ressource when you need to manually update specific games for specific versions).

Here’s exactly the files your ROM folder should have and its structure for the game to work (names are also important) : https://i.imgur.com/gcLiwPU.png

Once scanned, the game was in my playlist and loaded without problems.

To my defense, I added some games without scanning them and all were working using mame2016 core, I didn’t think this could be the problem here.

Well, all good now !

The game works really good with the current core, I’ve been waiting to play this for almost ten years now !
