MAME menu blurry when launching mame_libretro core

Hello, I have been using RetroArch with the mame_libretro core and I am loving it! I do have a minor annoyance in that when I launch the mame_libretro code via the command line or any time I try to use the MAME menu within. The menu is extremely blurry, like in this screenshot:

This is default behavior, I haven’t changed any settings, so I am assuming this is what everyone sees. So my question is, is there a config file or setting that I can change to make it look like in the standalone MAME?

I searched everywhere and couldn’t really find an answer, so my apologies if this has been asked before.

Thanks!

it’s low res because the core–including the OSD–is rendering at the driver’s native resolution so things like integer scaling and/or shaders work on the native res as expected.

There’s a core option called “alternate render” that will make it render at something like 1600x1200 (IIRC), which will make the OSD nice and crisp, but it’s going to break the aforementioned scaling/shaders/etc because of the pre-scaling.
