Mednafen PSX Black Screen with Audio for PAL Games

Hello,

I have been using Retroarch (X64) with Mednafen PSX successfully for NTSC games, however when I try to use PAL games I get a black screen but audio continues as normal in the background. The BIOS loads (I hear the Playstation and game intro) but I can get no video. My BIOS are 100% correct with checksum and filename, and I ran verbose logging and there are no errors to report in the console. My system is Windows 10. I have tried many different graphics configurations and fresh file locations everything is set up as it should be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, can post more details if needed.

Thanks

Strange, I have quite a few PAL games and they work perfectly fine in Windows 10.

Have you made changes in the core options for Mednafen PSX maybe?

I have separate core configurations for each game that is stored in the rgui_config/Mednafen PSX folder.

@spaffman, you are 100% right on this one!

It turned out I was using a core compiled from 2016-06-22, the newest core with the “Video mode” option added were you can set either “force ntsc” or “force pal” which is compiled 2016-06-25 seems to be the culprit.

NTSC games works fine but PAL games is given me black screens with just sound as well.

EDIT:

I filed a issue report on GitHub:

@spaffman, the commit that broke the core have been reverted and this issue is now fixed thanks to the wonders of GitHub so hopefully you won’t have any more problems.

I just gotta say thank you very much Spaffman for making this post and Sigma for responding. I am in the throes of setting up RetroArch/Mednafen for the first time ever and I had this issue and obviously did not think it was due to the core itself. I just assumed it was the bios files or the cue file or a multitude of things. Got my game up and running after updating the core. Thanks!

I have the same problem with the PAL only game “Technomage”. I updated my cores but still no fix for this game.
