Mednafen TurboGraphx 16 CD & PC Engine CD issues

I’ve just started getting into PC Engine CD, so forgive me if this is common knowledge, but in a few games I’ve tried (Zero Wing, Ryuuko no Ken/Art of Fighting) there are severe display issues, almost like the screen is cut in half and folded in on itself. I’m using the latest Win64 nightly build.

Is this an isolated issue on my end, or can someone else confirm these issues and is there a work around? I’ve searched but I haven’t seen anyone report these problems; I’ve tried a different version of Zero Wing, and I’ve made all the adjustments I can think of in RGUI. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I can confirm this, it doesn’t happen in the standalone version of Mednafen. It seems like this only happens in a few select games, I’ve never encountered this issue with the games I’ve tested before. I’ve opened up an issue report about this: https://github.com/libretro/mednafen-libretro/issues/48

EDIT: Made a few tests, this happens with R-Type too. Some games run in a different resolution, this might be the cause of the problem. http://forum.fobby.net/index.php?t=msg&goto=2554&

i ve just tested on linux (compiled the lasted pce_fast) and i don’t have screen pb with r-type or zero wing

Latest 5-1-2014 nightly…Win64 build

BTW 7rtype, what shader(s) are you using?

It seems like this might be a Windows-specific issue, Square seems to be unable to replicate this problem on his machine too. I’ve also tried to compile from the latest sources with the same results.

:’(

Can this be fixed?

This is from TurboGraphix 16 CD Ys I&II…

Surely this can’t be the first time someone noticed that this game wasn’t working??? I’m new to TurboGrafix/PC Engine, so I’m just discovering these issues now…

Are these issues something new?

Yes, these are new. Thing is Ryphecha (mednafen’s author) doesn’t use a versioning system so everytime a new version comes out it’s practically a new port.

You need to be patient, it will be looked at in time.

Thanks for the reply… I was unsure of the severity of the issue…

Hopefully it’s an easy issue

Just replace in Makefile line 77 : NEED_BPP = 16 to NEED_BPP = 32 and it should resolve the issue.

Tested on my part and the screen is correct now .

EDIT: i read the comment on the github issue created by Oggom , so seem to be a driver issue .

Thank you very much! I’ve sent in a pull request with the fix.

Thanks for figuring this out and sending a pull request…

Any idea about the cropped picture? =(
