Mupen64plus-next cant play PAL Games with 50 Hz Refeshrate

Hi, i would like to see PAL Games running in there original Famerate but i could not get it to working.

I am on a x64 based System with lakka 5.0. I use the GlideN64-Plugin and glcore driver for Performance Reasons.

If “autoswitch refresh rate” is set to on (default setting) and i try to play a PAL game the core crashes. if “autoswitch refresh rate” is set to off the games is running, but only with 60 hz output (internally it runs at 50). Most cores i tried have no issues with that “autoswitch refresh rate”-feature for PAL Games. But with Mupen it seems there is an bug.

I am on Linux and use RetroArch native on x64. I just tested it by setting RetroArch driver to glcore and use (up to date) Mupen with GlideN64-Plugin, and run 2 “Europe” (PAL) games. The RetroArch fps indicator locks to 50 after a few seconds.

The “autoswitch refresh rate” is a Lakka option, right? I searched the web a bit and found a related topic in this forum. The person uses NES, but has seemingly the same “problem” that PAL games run at 60 Hz: How to play PAL games with the correct speed? and says:

I found it out, I have to set “Favored system” to “pal”.

So my assumption is, that this is an issue with Lakkas auto detect option, rather than Mupen itself, as it automatically switches to 50 Hz mode on my system.

Hi, thank you for awswering me.

Under Video there is a setting for changing output refreshrate to match the content. This is not the VRR Setting!

Here i show it to you…

i dont know if this is a lakka special thing

This feature is really cool when it comes to playing PAL Games. On every other core i tried it works just fine. No clue why not with Mupen.

I looked for mupens core options but seems there is no Region/Firmware-Switch.

I don’t have this option. For me its automatic switch anyway and there is no reason to not switch. Even for Mupen. I also looked in Mupen for any setting, but can’t see anything that could solve it. Maybe there is a problem with Mupen in Lakka? Did you look in the log? Maybe there is some hint why it does not switch: https://docs.libretro.com/guides/generating-retroarch-logs/#generating-logs-in-lakka

BTW in the linked thread you were replying to it too, funny enough. So you had some issues for a while it seems (7 years ago!).

I’m guessing you are using the old stable then, since a few months ago I fixed one issue preventing refresh rate switching when the core also switches video drivers at the same time. I noticed it precisely by trying a PAL game with Mupen64, which switches to Vulkan.

Only Windows can do dynamic refresh rate switching based on content.

i took mupen from here (and tried the one that came with lakka 5.0) https://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/linux/x86_64/latest/

in generall with lakka 5.0: RA change Video Output refreshrate to 50 Hz when i start a PAL Games by default. and i mean the actual refreshrate delivered to the display. At least for Megadrvie, NES,SNES, PS1, SS and others this works flawless. No MS Windows and no overrides involved! as driver i used glcore because vulkan can not output 50 Hz in my case at least!

I wanted that Feature for years. Now its implemented very well and clever, i Love it. If Just mupen could Work with it too. I will Look for logs on Weekend Thank you Guys for helping me.
