Naming PC Engine/TurboGrafx BIOS files for PCE Fast core update

First of all, I’m way excited about how the new updates to cores were communicated on the front page. So many awesome updates and thanks to everyone who works to make this amazing. Part of these updates I cared so much about was the PCE-Fast core’s new ability to choose BIOS for games. (I had an entire second setup of RetroArch just so I could use the different boot screens, so this saved me a lot of headache!)

I had a few questions about this though…

First of all, naming the BIOS was pretty straight forward… CD-ROM^2 = syscard1.pce TurboGrafx = syscard2.pce Super CD-ROM^2 = syscard3.pce

Except, what do you name the Games Express BIOS? I tried games_express.pce as that seemed to be a common online naming scheme for it, but no dice. The emulator refuses to load once I choose that bios and I had to edit the default core options file.

The other question I had is more about how to save each type of BIOS to each type of game. So, for instance, when I play Fighting Street it boots up syscard2 for the TurboGrafx file, and then syscard3 when I need to play something like Castlevania - Rondo of Blood?

I tried saving game overrides… but it didn’t work :frowning:

You can save the bios selection per game: Quickmenu Option -> create game-options file

Game express is called gexpress.pce, it’s noted in the core info file.

What is the “core info file”? I’ve never heard of these before.

Also, thanks for the clarification. Now I can set each game for each level of the system to the proper BIOS.

Now if I could only just get Arcade CD-ROM^2 games to load at all lol I’d be all finished with this system.

Load a core, look into “information” -> “Core Information”.
You can also update them in the Online Updater.

what specific games requires specific bios to load? i’ve always had syscard3.pce

Some unofficial games need the Game Express card to run.
They should be in that list.

syscard3.pce can load anything exept for games express games.

The big difference is the logo you get when you boot using each bios.

no wonder. i never really bothered about unofficial or unlicensed releases, unless its one of the top must have list of the system, i did know about game express card bios, just never used it.

You’d be surprised what get’s throwin in the unlicensed sections. Anything by Tengen on the NES, Double Dragon on the Genesis…

They are totally worth having.
