I discovered today that none of the NES cores will play roms with the .unf file extenstion. I have to rename them to .nes, which is kind of a PITA when all my roms are archived in separate .zips
Is there something Im missing?
That would be up to the individual cores to support. If the cores already support it and they’re just not showing up in the list of files available, that’s pretty easy to correct.
Do they actually play when renamed to .nes?? I was under the impression that UNIF was a complete departure from iNES headers, which would leave most emulators unable to discern mappers, etc.
Which set is this, btw?
Yes, the ones Ive tried do play fine (in the nestopia core at least) once renamed to .nes
If I leave them with .unf they get filtered out in the retroarch interface, If I load them anyway retroarch crashes.
Its just a handful of games that ungoodmerge pulled from goodnes 3.23b.

I looked through the goodnes archives and discovered that all the ones in question do have .nes counterparts I can use, ungoodmerge pulled the ones with .unf when they had (U) [!], where the ones with .nes were missing the region.
I really don’t know crap about the different extensions with roms, I just found it strange that they play when renamed and just crash everything when theyre not.
They do play fine in stand alone nestopia without renaming, just not the retroarch core.
do you have the NstDatabase.xml in your system/bios directory? If not, I suspect it might make them work with the RetroArch core, as well.
I didn’t.
I put it there now though and it doesn’t seem to make a difference.
