PCE and Neogeo CD discs not loading/detected

Oh that’s embarrassing!! Right you are; as it was a disc I put it under the PC-FX folder instead of the PCE one… so I kept loading it against the wrong core… :unamused::sweat_smile:

So trying against the right one (!); cue states ‘no items’ on in the main UI; via iso it loads to a black screen. The Metal Slug is definitely a Neogeo CD game :wink:

So armed with the right core, the log stated I needed a US bios… not sure why when it’s a Japanese game; but remedied. It loads to an error message, but at least it’s game specific, so I think we can say the PC-E side of things is fixed regarding RA.

As for NeogGeo, still hates CUEs and ISOs… logs below.

Wrong, you are not loading the cue.

You are not specifying subsystem either.

I pos broke up the log at the wrong place… even removing the repetitive shader lines it was still huge! So when loading a cue, it goes to that dialog box in the screenshot above; i didn’t choose any of the options because they’re not the right core. as it doesn’t have the core, it doesn’t try to read the CUE.

Afaik, that’s the box you get from using the normal “load content”, how many times did we tell you that you can’t do that with subsystems ? @wertz gave you the method to use with the UI.

Again, that’s what @wertz told you to do :

*Load Core, select FB Alpha (the one with no numbers), 
*You should be back at main menu, but look more options appeared! 
*select Load NeogeoCD *browse you confirmed working .CUE file 
*You should be back at the menu, but Load Neogeno CD now is replaced with Start neogeo CD*
* all you need to do now is select Start NeogeoCD and all is well 

Afaik, the screen/box where you get this list of core is something you only get when using “Load content”, do you see “Load content” anywhere in @wertz’s instructions ?

That’s what I’m doing! The issue is between these 2 lines:

  • select Load NeogeoCD *browse you confirmed working .CUE file
  • You should be back at the menu, but Load Neogeno CD now is replaced with Start neogeo CD*

When I select the CUE it asks me which core to use, even though FB Alpha is in the bottom of the screen. If I navigate back to the main menu, Start neogeo CD with * exists, but selecting again asks me to pick a cue or iso.

Just in case I didn’t mention @wertz “confirmed working .CUE file” part; cue+iso+wav are still working fine in the non-RA FBA…

That’s weird, i don’t think it’s happening for other people, 2 things you could try :

That’s done something, the FBA is now an ption when it takes me to the core list after selecting the CUE. I’ve also reduced the name of the game files to snakecase; ms1.cue/ms1_01.iso/ms1_02.wav… CUE updates to match the new names too. I’ve also moved the files to a much shorter simpler C path.

Using the new FBA option in the core list; it takes me to a “No items.” screen. But at least that’s something new!

It’s a lot more fussier than other cores, and more convoluted; but I got it working thanks to your help :slight_smile: Finally that’s all the platforms that are better on RA migrated away from separate standalone apps :smile:

For others interested;

  • I had to add “|cue” (without quotes) to the ‘supported_extensions’ line in “fbalpha_libretro.info” file
  • Edited the cue/wav/iso filenames to be snakecase including extension with no spaces, and update the cue to match all of these changes.
  • Store these files in a short (non-protected) path in C:\ also in snakecase with no spaces.

Then to load the game:

  1. Load Core > FBA > Load Neogeo CD > load CUE > select Current core (FBA) > Loading the CUE will say 'No items."
  2. Go back to main menu and use “'Load Neogeo CD *” again > select the CUE again > “Start Neogeo CD”
  3. BIOS loads > press Start on Disc animation > move cursor onto Start and wait for game to boot.

Not sure why you have to do that though, this is working properly without those changes for me. Maybe some RA setting you use is interfering for whatever reason.
