Plans to have a KMS/EGL only version of Lakka again?

Hi kivutar. Just did a quick test with this build and its working just fine on my end. Didn’t configurate anything though. I loaded 2048 and Mgba (Metroid: Zero Mission).

My Old PC: Intel CoreDuo Ati x1550

Lakka was running at 1024x768 i think, i didn’t try to set the resolution to my monitor native resolution(1440x900).

Thanks dewdaum. Did your card have problem with DRM/KMS before, for example with this old image http://static.kivutar.me/Lakka-Generic.x86_64-devel-20150929235257-r21175-gba5c201.img.gz ? Some ATI card never had problems, so I need to know if the new patch fixes something or not.

Any results for somebody else? matcarfer?

Any results for somebody else? matcarfer?[/QUOTE] I tried with my AMD PC with ATI HD 4250 Integrated and it works fantastic! I also liked the increased menu font and the new menus! All cores I tried worked, specially Mupen64 and it worked really fast! Couldnt love it more!!!

I also tried it with my Notebook Lenovo G475 which has an APU E450 with an ATI HD 6320 and it worked perfect too, except that N64 and PS1 emulation was slow as hell and I have the idea that it was faster before.

EDIT: Crap. I tested r21186 and N64 and PS1 emulation is much, much faster on the notebook…

Ok, good to hear.

I really want this DRM/KMS version to be the default version. I need to check if the bug with ATI is really fixed by that new patch.

@matcarfer, did you experience the ATI bug with the previous DRM/KMS versions where the patch was not applied?

@about, does this new version fixes the bug on your ATI card?

Sure X11 add overhead.

In fact is the other way around. These special builds (DRM/KMS) are slower than standard nightly builds (X11). At least for me.

http://static.kivutar.me/Lakka-Generic.x86_64-devel-20151028051755-r21187-g48d49cd.img.gz is the build with DRM/KMS.

You are right, I got confused with build number, but as I said, DRM/KMS r21187 is slower than r21186 for me on ATI integrated cards (4250 and 6320).

That last version with the patch for ATI cards runs in my Intel NUC like a glove (and finally in my ATI/AMD PC’s!). In any Linux distro a lot of games run very slow with this computer, but Lakka in DRM/KMS even let me use a lot of shaders with 100% speed.

Keep up the good work!

So if I understand well, we get mixed results about performance with the DRM/KMS version. For @matcarfer, it works but the performance is worse. For @about, the performance is better.

On my side, I noticed that the performance was better in Intel cards, and worse on nvidia cards for GL cores like PPSSPP.

What I will do is shipping the DRM/KMS version as default, because it is cleaner, lighter and more open source. I will provide unofficial builds for x11 from time to time. And soon, nvidia and ati may provide powerfull drivers for DRM/KMS.

Exactly that
