Please show off what crt shaders can do!

I have to wear sunglasses on an overcast day as well, unless it’s dusk (like turning dark dusk) I need sunglasses, lol.

I’m not saying my display is causing eyestrain, I’m just saying the sun can blow me, lol.

Well that sounds like an over-sensitivity to light tbh, and not normal.

lol :joy:

Too many years of being a night person, I’d assume.

@Syh pretty much summed up what I needed to say lol

Stay away from HDR displays, then. 10,000+ nits is going to be the new normal very soon.

Me or son? Lol, I don’t know who you’re talking to, :joy:.

I don’t think it’s so much the brightness of the sun that is an issue for me, I think it a certain part of the light spectrum the sun emits that’s my issue. As I can have a cranked screen in a dark room without my eyes feeling like they are straining.

I definitely got my eyes on a CX OLED 65 inch in the near future lol. That’ll be after I upgrade my pc to a i9-9900K with RTX 2080TI. Overkill but I haven’t brought a new pc in years. Gonna spoil myself when I do though. When I get all of that then I’ll be back for your suggestions concerning black frame insertion and all of that good stuff lol

That display should have barely enough headroom for BFI+scanlines+masks, but not full-strength masks. Basically you should be able to use the settings I posted above with BFI and it will be about as bright as using those settings on a typical LCD sans BFI.

I think it’s a good idea to bring a laptop with RA to test any TV before you buy it. It can be hard to predict what these things are going to look like once you start doing a bunch of things they aren’t really designed to do. Also, OLED is not great for emulation IMO because of the burn-in issue, but maybe it’s not that bad.

Yeah I been reading up a little on the subject in the shader debate thread as well. It seems like it’ll take a 8k tv with everything you mentioned to really start seeing fruits

Yeah 8K is required to do accurate slot mask emulation, but if you’re fine with aperture grille or dot mask then even 1080p is fine.

I’ve had my eyes on the Samsung QLEDs for a while, planning on making a purchase soon but I keep having to spend all my money on other stuff. Been waiting on unemployment benefits for 6 weeks, then it came back and they accidentally omitted half my earnings from the previous year so I had to send in corrections and now I have to wait another 6 weeks. Very irritating shit. Sorry for the overshare, just had to rant a bit there.

That blows man, I’m sorry you’re having to go through that.

Thanks man. That’s not even the half of it. My life is basically just a hot mess right now, lol. It’s nice to have distractions like Retroarch.

Oh wow that’s crazy man, damn. Yeah hopefully everything gets sorted out soon and yes 8K is the future. In the mean time I’ll make due with what I been doing so far or until I upgrade my hardware. I been hearing about the burn in but I’m not sure if that’s too much of an issue with these new OLEDs. I see people say OLED gives a better picture than QLED

I feel you there, that’s part of why I’m building a fightstick (distraction, well that and I just really want one, lmao.)

I wish this stream would hurry up, I’m watching it for wiring and have seen zero wiring in an 1 in and half hours.

Yeah they both definitely have pros/cons. Really the only problems with OLED are lack of brightness compared to QLED and the burn-in issue. The brightness thing is only really an issue if you’re trying to do weird stuff with CRT shaders. OLED is better when it comes to everything else.

LG CX OLED 65 inch it is then lol

Also don’t forget that you’re going to need some serious hardware to run crt shaders at 8K @ 120Hz, especially if you want to take advantage of all the latency reducing stuff.

Meanwhile, my 15 year old HP workstation does just fine with even the most demanding shaders at 1080p after slapping a new graphics card in there.

Oh yeah that’s why I mentioned those pc specs earlier, I cant imagine anything less especially running a shader like Royale in 4K, 8K is a whole nother beast lol

We need a discord or something, :joy:.

Looks like we’re about to get to the wiring(only took about 2hrs into the stream), woot woot! (Well, 10-15 minutes from now, I’m hyped.) Love some good cable porn.
