Quick question about Beetle PSX

I’ve noticed that the internal FPS for the Beetle HW core is lower in a particular case than the regular Mednafen core. Namely in Overblood 2 there is an area where the internal FPS in the HW core drops to 17, but the regular core maintains a steady 24 FPS. Is this a known thing?

I’m not sure if that’s the case, but in Mednafen PSX you can overclock, while I don’t use the HW variant I don’t know if you can overclock it.

My guess is either you have overclock enabled in the normal core and disabled in the HW core if the latter has this option. Or, you have increased a lot the internal resolution in the HW core and depending on what’s going on in the game it drops some FPS. It happened to me some time ago when I used the HS core with increased internal resolution in Driver.

No. Like I said, same settings. But after updating to the latest core it seems to have improved some. Looks like it might just mostly be the game, FPS in that area jumps around. Strangely updating to the latest regular PSX core messes up the screen entirely unless I go to 1x native rendering. As shown here. Which looks like it’s weirdly off center or something.

I didnt see anything you said that mentions the same config for both cores. Ive been using Mednafen PSX running in its original 1x resolution with a nice crt shader, all games are running perfect, 2D or 3D games, the only thing I need to change, in some cases are games that aren`t compatible with the Dual Shock gamepad, and I need to change it back to the original gamepad.

Talking about internal resolution, do you notice slow downs using 1x resolution in the same area?

Yeah, but I think it’s probably just the game. It’s too bad my original PSX is up in an attic somewhere. I think I’ll just power through, using the HW core since the regular one doesn’t allow me to upscale anymore.
