Recent GPUs like RX 480 or GTX 10 series? Also can nightlies run live from USB?

I don’t know how supported they are in Linux overall, but just wondering if anyone knows how long it might be before these are supported in Lakka. When I tried the last couple stables they never finish loading (stuck on flower or maybe black screen, can’t recall now) on systems with an RX 480, GTX 1070, or GTX 1080. I thought maybe the nightlies support these new cards but I didn’t have a hdd ready to install, which brings me to my next question.

Do the nightlies allow running live from USB? When I try the Lakka nightlies they don’t bring up the boot menu to choose install or run live, it just takes awhile and then loads the installer. I think I see the options in the config file and if I’m reading it correct live is the default as usual, but I never see the menu.

We rely on open source driver as we are using drm/kms not xorg.

For NVidia cards, we added support for Maxwell cards. Pascal cards (GeForce GTX (1060, 1070, 1080)) are not yet supported because we need a linux kernel at least from 4.8, moreover they just started to add support for those cards.

For AMD card, RX 480 required kernel 4.7 minimum and we are currently running on kernel 4.6.3.

I am sorry but you will have to wait a little we update the kernel to support those cards.

Ok, thanks. Anyone know about my other question, about the nightlies not giving me the option to run live from USB?

What happened when you try to boot ?

You should see the boot menu. Can you check that you have the correct image with md5sum or sha256sum. You can read this documentation to learn about how to verify md5sum.

Thanks.

What was happening was is it took me directly to the installer main menu, it skipped the boot menu with the option to run live and just went right to the installer main menu. This is so odd. I understand the possibility of file corruption either in the download or when writing to the USB, but in such a way that just removes the option to run live while leaving other options functioning? That’s weird :). Because it appeared to be functioning fine otherwise, I never though to re-download the file or re-write the USB.

The current stable version of Lakka has Kernel 4.11. Does this one already supports the GTX 10xx series ? Or do we have to wait for the next lakka iteration ? I tested the the latest version of Librelec on a GTX 1050 ti and it seemed to work fine, while with Lakka 2.1 RC 6 I was still stuck on flower screen.

Thanx!

For Pascal graphics cards, it will be finally kernel 4.12.

Thanks for confirming! I’m gonna arm myself with some more patience ;). In the meantime, i’ll continue with my iGPU. I’m very much looking forward to the next Lakka. Keep up the fantastic work! My whole little family is enjoying retro-gaming!

Yes when LibreElec version 9 is released we should have it.
