Reicast crashing - log attached

I’m getting a crash when I try to load a Dreamcast game.

I’ve looked at the log and don’t understand what’s going on.

Funny thing is, I set this up on my test PC before trying to get it working on my arcade cabinet PC and had no issues.

Here’s my log… https://1drv.ms/t/s!AvrMc8hrhb76niEwpp_MH9S6wksR

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

–J

Here’s a snapshot of the log in case it’s easier or helps…It just ends abruptly at “Debug Break.”

I’ve tried everything I can think of and it just crashes the program every time I try to load a game.

Does it do the same for all games? It seems like it’s just having problems with that one track.

Yes, I’ve tried many games and even this same game on another PC and it works fine. No game works on this PC, though, and this is my arcade PC. :frowning:

I’ve tried using a fresh retroarch.cfg file and that made no difference.

Any ideas on what else to try would be greatly appreciated. I really want to get this core/system working properly on this PC.

Thanks,

Since I haven’t gotten any replies, I decided to see if I could get redream to work instead.

It doesn’t crash, but just sits there and doesn’t do anything, unfortunately.

Here’s the last bit of my log. Let me know if you need the whole log.

[INFO] Environ SET_HW_RENDER. What does this mean?

I’ve heard reicast works better and would prefer getting that one working, but if nobody can help me, I’d appreciate any help possible on getting redream working.

Thanks,

–J

After reading the log for the second time, I see it failed to load boot.bin. I changed dc_boot.bin (made a copy of it, actually) to boot.bin and placed it in the system folder.

Now here’s what I get…

[INFO] Environ SET_HW_RENDER. [INFO] Requesting core OpenGL context (3.3). boot_load_rom loaded ‘F:\HyperSpin\Emulators\RetroArch\system\boot.bin’ pvr_reconfigure_spg mode=VGA pixel_clock=13500000 line_clock=15734 vcount=262 hcount=857 interlace=0 vbstart=260 vbend=336 dc_load path=F:\ROMs\Sega Dreamcast\18 Wheeler - American Pro Trucker (USA).gdi gdi_parse track=1 filename=‘F:\ROMs\Sega Dreamcast\track01.bin’ fad=150 secsz=2352 gdi_parse track=2 filename=‘F:\ROMs\Sega Dreamcast\track02.raw’ fad=750 secsz=2352 gdi_parse track=3 filename=‘F:\ROMs\Sega Dreamcast\track03.bin’ fad=45150 secsz=2352 [src/guest/gdrom/gdi.c:24] Check failed: fp must be non-NULL

Still not working and I don’t know why??

Thanks,

–J

I’ve tried several different titles, too. :frowning:

I just tried a 6th or 7th title, and this time, I heard and saw the beginning of the Dreamcast logo with sound, the very first thing you see and hear, for a few seconds, then it stopped and that was it. RetroArch just stopped and closed… No crash message or anything, though.

Here’s the relevant (I think) part of the log for that.

[INFO] Loading history file: [F:\HyperSpin\Emulators\RetroArch\content_video_history.lpl]. [INFO] Loading history file: [F:\HyperSpin\Emulators\RetroArch\content_image_history.lpl]. Ok, after adding some parameters to RocketLauncher (I was trying to load archives [7z] directly from RetroArch before) I have both cores working.

However, there are still issues…

With Reicast, every title, asks me for the date and time, every time. Is there any way to set this and/or bypass this?

With Redream, not every title works. Some do and some don’t. So far in my testing, it’s about 50/50 which isn’t good.

Is there a way to get more titles working with Redream? I’d prefer using Redream if I can get all the titles working simply because it doesn’t ask for the date/time every time, but if there’s a way to bypass that in Reicast, I’d rather use it.

Thanks,

–J

Also, this is the first system I’ve set up where A and B aren’t backwards like they are on NES, SNES, etc.

How do I go about telling the controls, Retropad, or otherwise, that A and B (and X and Y) aren’t backwards like I set them up originally on my controller?

Should I make a new thread for this question?

Thanks for all your help,

–J

I forget how you set the date and time. I think you need to load the BIOS without a game or something…? There were some threads about it when the Reicast core first came out.

For the buttons, save a core remap from the quick menu’s “controls” submenu.
