Reicast FMV stuttering

Hi:

I got my dreamcast games working with retroarch + reicast but I’m having issues with fmvs stuttering (everything else seems to be fine). It doesn’t happen with the other dreamcast core.

I recorded this video of the issue I’m describing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaLAMmqJlOY&feature=youtu.be

It happens with all the games I tried that have FMVs (another one is Grandia II for example).

Any ideas? Thanks!

I’ve got the same issue.

My setup: Intel Core i3-322 Onboard graphics (HDMI output) 8GB ram Lakka distro (x86-64) Reicast emulator

Are there certain video options that need to be supported in order to watch FMVs within Dreamcast games?

Thanks, -Tram

Have you tried changing the video output cable in core options?

I know that Sonic Adenture’s opening videos were stuttering and garbage until I flipped the cable type to RGB

Ok, I think I found the right config file:

/storage/.config/retroarch/retroarch-core-options.cfg

I set the following option to:

reicast_cable_type = “RGB”

Videos are still stuttering.

I think there are multiple RGB types in the core options.

Rather than the config file itself, I’d just try going to the core options from within retroarch via the quick menu. You can just scroll through each cable type, restart RA and see if it helps.

I just noticed too that you said you are using onboard graphics. You could try turning on threaded video as well. That’s in the video options section.

Hey guys! Sorry to bump this old thread, but I am finishing setting up Dreamcast for the first time and I am too noticing stutter in the FMV videos.

Threading video and changing the cable setting did not work for me.

Any tips on what to do and/or if anybody had this problem and managed to resolve it will be appreciated

I remember I had this stuttering FMVs in the normal Reicast build, but it was totally fine in the Reicast OIT version, the only game I tested was Sonic Adventure, so I’m not sure others will behave the same, if you guys are on Windows or Linux, try the OIT version and see if it fixes the stutter.

Thanks Aorin, but RA autocloses when I use OIT. Logs do not specify anything, so I dont know what is killing it.

I read somewhere that for Intel (the one I have) and AMD, OIT does not work correctly, and a work-around is to disable all shaders, but this did not work either for me.

I guess time will tell with the Reicast development, I dont mind having a little stutter on the videos. Any other recommendation is more than welcome

I have an Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU, video driver is set to GL in Retroarch, here’s my Reicast oit config in case it can help you.

Dang thats a long cfg XD

Will try it tomorrow and see how it goes. Dont have my hopes up. Thanks amigo!

Same thing. I am pretty sure it is because my Intel graphics card (read somewhere that OIT is Nvidia friendly only). Thank you anyways

Got it mate, I skipped the part you were using intel graphics card.
