[Request] GEMRB

Greetings, I’m not one to just request stuff in a first forum post, but I am doing so now. This is because I’m a very happy retroarch user and I’m looking very much forward to the upcoming 1.1 release, and what I would think to be an awesome core is one of GEMRB.

Now GEMRB is an engine, or interpreter that you can use to play old Infinity engine games with. think of Baldur’s Gate I & II, icewind dale I & II, Planescape Torment(!!). and any other games that the community has released based on the infinity engine. Currently they are working on an release that will make it possible to play the Enhanced editions with GEMRB.

I have asked on the Gibberling 3 forums to see if they were planning on their own to make a libretro core but they weren’t interested but as it is opensource they would be happy to see if anyone would do so.

There are a lot of engine reimplementations I’d like to see libretro ports of, though I think some of the more gamepad-friendly ones, like ResidualVM, might be an easier sell. Regardless, most of these reimplementations rely heavily on SDL, which needs to be carved out to make a good libretro port. For example, the NX Engine port had to be basically rewritten, but it’s now much better than the standalone in a lot of ways.

Guys over at Gibberlings 3 saythat libretro would have been nice 10 years ago, but for them it doesnt help them much… Maybe I’m don’t understand understand libretro well enough

Yeah, people frequently don’t get it. If someone says “SDL is good enough,” they’re probably going to be a hard-sell. The ScummVM guys were interested in our shaders but not in any of the other benefits. /shrug
