[Request] More Resolutions Options

Currently in RetroArch Wii, GC, and others you can alter the resolution but there’s no way of selecting the following:

256x240 256x224 160x144 256x192 320x224 320x240

Also! There lacks a option to set a resolution, but then chose to go for pixel mode thus getting pixel perfection such as 320x240 for a NES game which is 256x240 (or 224) and having black bars for perfect pixels.

I myself and a lot thoughts would really appreciate these two features if they were to get in. I’d be willing to donate a little money to the cause if needed as well. Thank you for reading. =D

We’ve had a bumpy history with this option. I believe it was in a long time ago, but it was buggy and people always said “that’s great, but could you just add these 3 more resolutions?” such that it was impossible to maintain.

I’ve talked briefly with Squarepusher about the feasibility of setting a mode that would fetch the native resolution from a game/core and then try to push that out as the fullscreen resolution, though I don’t think that would help with 160x144.

Re: donations, we don’t accept money for any reason, but we do accept patches/pull requests, so if you pay some outside programmer somewhere to implement it, we’ll pull it in (assuming the patch is of usable quality).

Ah, I see. Yeah, when I wrote that I wondered about the game boy resolution. I think it might be more feasible with the second request I requested, but I do appreciate the time you took to respond. Thank you!

Actually, I think specifically is there is a limit on how many resolutions would be needed, the list I was making was covering consoles that may be emulated on said console. I think my list covered them all? but yeah I can understand that.

I would forget that idea, using 256 or 320 would needlessly make the image lose sharpness, that’s why instead it’s doubled so there is less filtering. It is also a fact that SNES Virtual Console games use 512 instead of 256.

Why exactly do you want 160x144? As a screen resolution this would look awful. The custom viewports cover this problem with handhelds excellently. If what you’re after is 240p for handheld cores, then that’s a bit complicated because RA only supports custom viewports with *x480 resolutions only.

For GB, if you want to imitate the Super Game Boy you use 512x480, if you want to imitate the Game Boy Player you use 608x480. Then simply set the viewport to 320x288.

He is indeed but those resolutions are already there, the handheld ones are not because the horizontal res gets stretched to 640, this will of course get you a distorted image for any handheld core.
