RetroArch Icons

I don’t know if this is the right forum to post, but I made one icon for the RetroArch 1.0 just for fun:

Preview:

Any tips?

That looks really nice! I’ll talk to Squarepusher about switching over to it, since this looks much more native than the existing one.

Hey, thanks!

If you want, I can make 1 for each platform (android, ios, gamecube, xbox…)

Made new ones:

PC - iOS Black - iOS White - Android - Blackberry - Windows Phone

Since I only have the iPad, I don’t know the shape of the icons from other systems, but I can easily change this if necessary.

Someone made ones for Wii but they don’t have that nice shading that yours have:

They are 128 x 48 for The Homebrew Channel on Wii.

These look amazing. Can you post the actual icon files with transparency? Otherwise RetroArch can’t include them.

What license would you put on these icons anyway? Please make sure that you use a license compatible with RetroArch’s mission if you do actually want them included with RetroArch.

Glad you liked it! About the licensing stuff, feel free to use it as you wish. No credits needed.

I uploaded all the .png images in a .zip file, you can download it here: RETROARCH ICONS

Nice work man those are great!!! Can I request one later? I have all my icons in my HTPC in a certain layout

Yeah sure, anytime.

I use thses PSDs as basis and I have XBMC on Windows and Linux

If you could make both for both platforms in your style I’d really appreciate it

Very nice !

if you cloud make also a specific one for PC on linux would be great

I downloaded the templates, but I didn’t understand. What exactly do you want me to do?

I will try.

Uh… well make a pair of them that fit the template  If you can post the PSD or SVG to your icon I could make my own

Oh, I see.

I used the template from this website: http://appicontemplate.com/ iOS 7 Template, it has a lot of colors and gradients, very easy to change and it is a .psd.

How to install this icon?

Oh, I see.

And do you have a PSD for the invader? it’s a bit different than the one in the logo

Back to iOS 7 style. Let me know if you want any of these icons in any color.

Why is this image a lossy transcode? Please avoid saving as a lossy format such as jpeg and especially then saving that lossy image as a lossless format such as png in your workflow. This is called “lossy transcoding” and is frowned upon due to its causing of generation loss. The compression artifacts are evident.

That said, the general design of these icons seems pretty good, but the curvature of the corners is inconsistent with iOS 7 icons, as shown on http://appicontemplate.com/. I certainly prefer iurinery’s icons at this point.

As an aside, your preview image has the icons haphazardly placed, with the purple icon 1 pixel higher than the green icon.

It was just a quick preview and iOS 7 should auto curve the icons properly. If you want an icon then ill upload them individually via dropbox in all their glory. And I know all about lossy transcodes etc. My source files are vector images. I am not new when it comes to making icons for iOS. If iOS 7 does not auto curve the icons properly for some reason then I would have to make an overlay which would be a pain and odd that iOS didn’t auto curve them as it does for App Store apps.

Fair enough. Please post the icons properly, then, and make sure that you use a license compatible with RetroArch’s mission if you do actually want them to be acceptable for most RetroArch users.
